Firstly, the best period dramas in ages is coming the form of Netflix\u2019s The Abandons<\/a>, which stars Gillian Anderson and Lena Heady as matriarchs at war\u2026 with each other! We\u2019ve also got the long-awaited Doctor Who spin-off, a twisty new crime drama and plenty more. Gillian Anderson and Games of Thrones\u2019 Lena Heady are going head-to-head as two matriarchs fronting warring clans in 1854 Washington – and it’s quite the battle. Lena’s Fiona Nolan is a fierce, faith-driven Irish immigrant with four adopted orphans, while Gillian\u2019s Constance Van Ness is a mining heiress who will stop at nothing to grow her fortune. Russell T Davies\u2019 Doctor Who spin-off is arriving with a thrilling double bill. The five-part series will introduce us to Barclay (Russell Tovey), a low-level UNIT staff member whose ordinary life turns rather terrifying when an ancient species rises from the sea. Barclay becomes humanity\u2019s ambassador when the mysterious Salt (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) emerges from the Tank at a summit on the Thames. Suddenly, humanity must confront the way it\u2019s treated the oceans to avoid total wipeout. Arriving on BBC One and BBC iPlayer<\/a> on Sunday 7th December.<\/p>\n

Based on the 2018 book of the same name by Patrick Radden Keefe, this nine-episode series takes us to Northern Ireland during The Troubles \u2013 and, more specifically, one of the most harrowing atrocities that took place during the conflict. At the centre of it is Jean McConville, a widowed mother of ten who was abducted from her home by the IRA in 1972 \u2013 and never returned. With a huge cast of both established actors and rising stars, including Lola Petticrew, Hazel Doupe and Maxine Peake, it\u2019s the sort of series you\u2019ll still be thinking about days after you\u2019ve watched it. Arriving on Channel 4<\/a> at 9pm on Monday 1st December. <\/p>\n

Play for Today: A Knock at the Door \"person<\/p>\n

If you enjoy a mind-bending psychological thriller, look no further than the latest drama in Channel 5\u2019s Play for Today series. The story revolves around Lenny Bray (Alan Davies), a once-beloved star who’s fallen on hard times and retreated to his mansion with his wife Maggie (Nikki Amuka-Bird). A quiet evening at home takes a shocking turn, however, when a young stranger – barefoot and covered in blood – shows up unannounced to confront Lenny and expose some deep, dark secrets. Arriving on Channel 5<\/a> on Thursday 4th December. <\/p>\n

Martin Kemp, Vogue Williams<\/a> and Jack Osbourne are among the contestants in the running for jungle glory and they\u2019re just days away from making it to the end. Highlights have included our first live trial in six years, Tom Read Wilson\u2019s accents and Ruby Wax\u2019s sweet-swiping. No doubt there are plenty more to come. This Marbella-set series was a colossal success when it first aired in Spain last year, and Channel 4\u2019s Walter Presents has happily snapped it up. The series tells the story of ambitious lawyer, C\u00e9sar (Hugo Silva), who desperately wants to topple his more powerful lawyer rival Carlos Senti\u00e9n (Fernando Cayo) and sees the perfect opportunity to do so when he takes on drug-smuggling Mafia boss, Yassim (Khalid El Paisano) as a client. However, as C\u00e9sar helps Yassim establish a new drug pipeline to Spain, he\u2019s drawn further into the criminal word, making prominent enemies along the way. Seaside Hotel\"seaside<\/p>\n

There\u2019s nothing like a good period drama, especially when it brings some sunshine with it. Set in a glamorous Danish coastal hotel in the 20th Century, this long-running series follows the lives of the rich holidaymakers and the less affluent locals. While the guests are hoping for a carefree summer of fun, their holidays don\u2019t always run as smoothly as planned. Expect conflicts, romances and some tear-jerking incidents as the final two series (9 and 10) arrive on Channel 4. Arriving on Channel 4<\/a> on Friday 5th December. <\/p>\n
