{"id":209059,"date":"2025-12-01T04:24:15","date_gmt":"2025-12-01T04:24:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/209059\/"},"modified":"2025-12-01T04:24:15","modified_gmt":"2025-12-01T04:24:15","slug":"mans-careless-driving-on-west-cork-road-spotted-by-off-duty-garda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/209059\/","title":{"rendered":"Man\u2019s careless driving on West Cork road spotted by off-duty garda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"contextmenu internal_Body1st\">A motorist who pleaded guilty to careless driving was prosecuted after he was spotted by an off-duty garda, the district court has heard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Sergeant Tom Mulcahy told Skibbereen District Court that the garda was driving along the R593 from Skibbereen to Baltimore in her private car on August 13, 2025, just after 10am.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The court heard when she approached the junction with the L4204 at Bunlick, she observed a large amount of smoke at the junction ahead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The court was told the garda at first thought there was \u201csomething on fire\u201d due to the amount of smoke.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">As she got closer, she could see the rear of a blue BMW in the smoke that made a \u201csudden loop\u201d at the junction as if the car was doing \u201cdonuts\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu caption\">Speed<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The car entered the main road towards Baltimore at speed and stopped at temporary traffic lights further on. The garda said the car was being driven by a man and there was a female passenger.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The garda made a note of the vehicle\u2019s details and lost sight of it after it drove off from the traffic lights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The owner of the vehicle was identified as Seins Vizulins, aged 24, of Townsend St, Skibbereen, Co Cork.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Defence solicitor Flor Murphy said Vizulins was interviewed the following day and made admissions. He said Vizulins admitted coming out of the junction \u201chard\u201d and accepted his driving was \u201cnot proper\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">He said Vizulins was a welder fabricator and was highly regarded by his employer. Mr Murphy asked the court to consider reducing the charge of dangerous driving to the lesser charge of careless driving given that Vizulins had no previous convictions and needed his licence for work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Judge Joanne Carroll said: \u201cThis was very bad driving with speed at a T-junction and a gross want of care.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">She said she would reduce the charge \u201csomewhat reluctantly\u201d, and convicted Vizulins of careless driving.
