Miriam Margolyes<\/a> made a much-awaited return<\/a> to Graham Norton<\/a>\u2019s sofa on Friday night \u2013 and we\u2019re happy to report that she certainly didn\u2019t disappoint.<\/p>\n

The always-outrageous star has had countless iconic moments on Graham\u2019s talk show over the years, going viral for stories about everything from her past sexual escapades<\/a>, public flatulence<\/a> and encounters with fellow actors<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And during her latest appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Miriam made a callback to a story she previously told on the show.<\/p>\n

Way back in 2012, Miriam recalled an incident that had taken place<\/a> \u201cthe last time\u201d she was in Edinburgh.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope this isn\u2019t going to offend anybody,\u201d she prefaced at the time. \u201cI was walking home after a show one night, and I was walking through The Meadows, which is a kind of field in the middle of Edinburgh, and I heard a rustling above me\u2026 and I looked up and I saw a young man masturbating in the tree.\u201d<\/p>\n

Miriam continued: \u201cI said, \u2019what are you doing?\u2019. I felt concerned! And I said, \u2018what is your occupation?\u2019. And he said, \u2018I\u2019m a soldier\u2019, and I said, \u2018in the Tattoo\u2019, and he said \u2018yes, I am\u2019, and I said, \u2018come down at once\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, he sort of slid down the tree, and I said, \u2018you know you can get into trouble for doing what you\u2019re doing\u2026?\u2019. You\u2019ve heard of helping hands, haven\u2019t you? Well, I helped him out. And he was charming \u2013 and I must say, also, grateful. He was a solider, and you\u2019ve got to support the troops!\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, at the time, Miriam\u2019s fellow guests\u2019 shock led her to end the anecdote there, but as she revealed during her most recent appearance on Graham Norton \u2013 there was actually a lot more to the story.<\/p>\n

She recalled: \u201cI was wiping my hand in the grass, and [I heard] a voice from the bushes\u2026 and a very nicely-dressed gentleman came forward and said, \u2019I couldn\u2019t help noticing what you had done for that young man, and I wondered if it was at all possible, whether you would do the same for me? <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I thought to myself, \u2018well I can\u2019t say no, can I?\u2019. Well, I just felt I couldn\u2019t, that\u2019s the thing! So, I did what he asked me to do, right there, there was nobody else there, and off he went. And I was wiping my hand on the grass again, and lo and behold \u2013 this is the bit that nobody believes, but it is true \u2013 a voice from the same place said, \u2018hey, Miriam!\u2019. And it was someone I knew!<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a young student that I had known in Oxford\u2026 and he said, \u2018listen, we\u2019re old friends\u2019, and I said, \u2018oh, come on!\u2019. Fair\u2019s fair\u2026 so I did! Three for the price of one!\u201d<\/p>\n

Last year, Graham insisted that Miriam<\/a> \u2013 who has now made 10 separate appearances on his talk show \u2013 \u201clooks wilder than she is\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s actually very canny,\u201d the Irish presenter claimed<\/a>. \u201cShe sort of self-produces. Going into [an interview], we\u2019ll know that there\u2019s kind of a wild story we want from her \u2013 but often, during the show, she\u2019ll change her mind and say, \u2018no, that\u2019s not the story I\u2019m going to tell\u2019, and she\u2019ll drop a bombshell on us.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it\u2019s always timed very well, and she allows the other guests to have their moment. She\u2019s clever, is Miriam.\u201d<\/p>\n

He later admitted that he \u201cfeels bad\u201d<\/a> that Miriam\u2019s unfiltered stories mean she\u2019s sometimes seen as \u201ckind of a comedy turn\u201d, rather than the \u201cbrilliant actor\u201d she is.<\/p>\n

In 2023, Miriam told Graham that when she was putting together her second memoir, she made a point of not being \u201cquite as rude\u201d as she had been in the first instalment\u201d, noting<\/a>: \u201cI wanted to talk about the more serious part of my life, so people don\u2019t just think I am a maniac.
