On November 29, the Wicked: For Good star reshared a clip from last year’s Wicked press tour on her Instagram Story alongside a caption explaining that she was posting it again “as a loving reminder to all.” In the interview for the web series Oui Oui Baguette, Grande addressed people who comment on her body online. “I have heard it all. I’ve heard every version of it, of what’s wrong with me,” she said. “And then you fix it, and then it’s wrong for different reasons.” As co-star Cynthia Erivo nodded supportively, Grande suggested that the “comfortability” people have with speaking about others’ looks is “really dangerous” for all parties involved, adding that the “pressure of that noise” has been present since she was 17 but is no longer “welcome” in her life.

This nod at her past remarks follow weeks of online discussion over how thin several Wicked: For Good cast members look — including Grande, Erivo and Michelle Yeoh — which in turn sparked digital discourse over whether people were engaging in body-shaming under the guise of expressing health concerns. This isn’t the first time that Grande has been at the center of such conversations. She previously suggested in a 2023 TikTok that fans who feel like they are looking out for by commenting on her weight are not always right. “There are many different ways to look healthy and beautiful,” she said at the time. “And personally, for me, the body that you’ve been comparing my current body to was the unhealthiest version of my body.” That’s a key phrase: her body.

 Related

Ariana Grande.
