{"id":210456,"date":"2025-12-01T23:48:14","date_gmt":"2025-12-01T23:48:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/210456\/"},"modified":"2025-12-01T23:48:14","modified_gmt":"2025-12-01T23:48:14","slug":"irish-households-not-getting-full-benefit-of-retail-investment-says-central-bank-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/210456\/","title":{"rendered":"Irish households not getting full benefit of retail investment, says Central Bank \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/investment\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/investment\/\">Investment <\/a>is largely a pursuit for the wealthiest in Ireland, a new report from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/central-bank\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/central-bank\/\">Central Bank<\/a> has indicated, with households here having among the lowest levels of direct participation in markets in Europe. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Households in the Republic hold about 38 per cent of their financial assets in deposits and cash, rather than in equities, debt securities and other instruments. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">This indicates a relatively low level of engagement with capital markets compared to the EU average, the Central Bank said, although indirect Irish participation through products like pensions is above the average across the bloc. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">According to the research, retail investors tend to be wealthy people in employment with a \u201chigher level of educational attainment\u201d, the Central Bank said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A lack of knowledge of investment products is among the key barriers identified in the report.
