Waterford but had been living with her family in Longwood in Co. <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishmirror.ie\/all-about\/meath\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"MeathLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Meath<\/a>, died on Wednesday following a sudden illness, just one day after her newborn baby Ailbhe passed away.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">Aoife, who was a teacher at Ashbourne Community School, where she taught Spanish, Business and SEN, was laid to rest in Clonee Cemetery Longwood alongside her beloved daughter Ailbhe following a Funeral Mass in St Brigid&#8217;s Church, Boardsmill, Trim, Meath on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">Mourners heard Aoife was a \u201cmotivated\u201d young teacher who was an \u201cinspiration to her students\u201d and that little Ailbhe is now in her arms forever.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">\u201cLosing my sister has been one of the most challenging things we&#8217;ve ever had to face,\u201d Aoife\u2019s sister R\u00f3is\u00edn shared with mourners before the funeral began.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">\u201cIt&#8217;s something we never imagined having to do, and even now, it feels surreal, but we know that Aoife understands exactly how much she meant to all of us.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">\u201cShe did absolutely everything she could to save herself, because that was who she was, strong, determined, stubborn in the best way, but she was also too good, too gentle, too pure for this world, a hard exterior wrapped around the top.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1000036335_3af27c0e9a3a9775a3ba7ba1c9866f4baf99be68c399b169_.jpg\" alt=\"Aoife Bird and her newborn baby Ailbhe sadly passed away earleri this week\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Aoife Bird and her newborn baby Ailbhe sadly passed away. <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/0_Screenshot-2025-12-02-at-153334.png\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Mourners gathered at St Brigid&#8217;s Church, Boardsmill(Image:<br \/>\nTullamore Funeral Service YouTube Channel)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">She added: \u201cWe promise that your legacy will stay alive every single day. We promise that Daith\u00ed will always know his mammy\u2026 how proud you are of him, how much joy he brought to your life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">\u201cWe know that baby Ailbhe is in your arms forever, and I&#8217;m so sorry you couldn&#8217;t do more for you both\u2026. And don\u2019t worry, we will look after Jim\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">Some of the items brought forward to remember Aoife\u2019s life included a Kilkenny jersey, Aoife\u2019s showjumping jacket and an Ireland flag, a picture of Aoife and her friends, a picture of Jim, Daith\u00ed and baby Ailbhe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">In a heartbreaking eulogy, the priest told mourners how Aoife\u2019s beloved siblings all have, in their own way, \u201cinherited so many of her attributes\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">\u201cWe will always remember who will be forever the greatest gift of love that Jim and Daith\u00ed could ever have received, a baby, who in those few precious months has given hope and joy and love way beyond the measure of her days,&#8221; he shared.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">\u201cWe will remember a young teacher who has been a light and an inspiration to her students, a colleague full of fun in the staff room, a friend and a keen competitor in the show jumping arena, representing her locality and even her country.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/0_Screenshot-2025-12-02-at-153212.png\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The priest delivered a tearful eulogy (Image:<br \/>\nTullamore Funeral Service YouTube Channel)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">\u201cWe could see the devotion of her devastated parents, Margaret and Peter, such lovely people. Her heartbroken grandparents, Mick and Kathleen and Aoife\u2019s siblings, each in their own way, have inherited so many of her attributes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">\u201cThe siblings have such beautiful memories of growing up together, especially from Christmas Eve, staying up waiting for Santa to arrive, Aoife insisting that they all hang out together in her room, the same room, by the way, that she clung on to even when she moved here to Meath.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">\u201cHow Ashton has inherited Aoife\u2019s kindness, Aoife would do anything for anyone, a willingness to help, a generous heart, someone who gets up and gets on with it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">\u201cAoife has always been highly motivated, always going after what she wants, a quality and and motivation that has inspired not only Siobhan but everyone who has been so fortunate to have shared in Aoife\u2019s life and her dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">\u201cIt is impossible not to be inspired by the loving care and devotion you have for each other.
