Following streaming release and viewer anticipation, Troll 2<\/a><\/strong> received a range of reviews from critics. It premiered on Netflix on December 1, 2025, and stars Ine Marie Wilmann, Kim Falck, and Mads Sj\u00f8g\u00e5rd Pettersen. Directed by Roar Uthaug, the film continues the story of Norway\u2019s mythical giants. Critics noted the sequel\u2019s blend of Norse folklore, action, and large-scale monster movie elements.<\/p>\n

Troll 2 reviews aren\u2019t all positive<\/p>\n

Critics have given Troll 2 a mix of positive and negative reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, multiple critics gave the film a \u201cRotten\u201d score, including John Serba of Decider<\/a>, who wrote, \u201cTroll 2 is even more tedious and underwhelming than its mediocre predecessor.\u201d Phil Hoad of The Guardian<\/a> stated, \u201cThe characterisation is token, and the quip embellishment is weak.\u201d Jonathon Wilson from Ready Steady Cut<\/a> commented, \u201cI\u2019ve now seen two of these movies, and I still have no idea whether we\u2019re supposed to be rooting for the trolls or not.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other critics offered a more favorable assessment. Rachael Harper of SciFiNow<\/a> gave the film a \u201cFresh\u201d score, calling it \u201cambitious, playful and unapologetically giant-sized.\u201d Simon Abrams of RogerEbert.com<\/a> rated it 2\/4 and noted, \u201c[The movie] doesn\u2019t have nearly enough action, monster-related or otherwise, to justify its existence,\u201d though this still contributed to a Fresh rating. Pramit Chatterjee of Digital Mafia Talkies<\/a> described it as suffering from \u201csequelitis,\u201d but added, \u201cIt offers some much-needed variety to this subgenre.\u201d<\/p>\n

Troll 2 Rotten Tomatoes score is much lower than first movie<\/p>\n

Rotten Tomatoes<\/a> shows Troll 2 with a 58% Tomatometer score based on 12 reviews and a 39% audience score from 50+ ratings. In comparison, the original Troll holds<\/a> a 90% Tomatometer score from 29 reviews and a 50% audience score from 1,000+ ratings.<\/p>\n

Audience feedback on the sequel also reflects divided opinions. One reviewer wrote, \u201cIt felt too similar to the original and just slightly worse in every aspect.\u201d Another stated, \u201cWhat a huge letdown and sorry disappointment this flop is\u2026 I\u2019m sure there are trolls eventually but this is just way too much bullsh*t to wade through to get to them.\u201d<\/p>\n
