That gives CANDLEFORD <\/strong>a big chance to be ridden forward again by Tom Marquand and say catch me if you can.<\/p>\n The Willaim Haggas runner was back to winning ways at Beverley last time, but more importantly was a fine third (behind Al Aasy) when last seen at Goodwood. He led that day and can take this by the horns and dictate.<\/p>\n 14:05 Newmarket \u2013 Silver Samurai<\/a><\/strong> (Each Way)<\/p>\n Featuring in a handicap restricted to relatively grey horses over 6f, SILVER SAMURAI<\/strong> should go well here for Marco Botti and Benoit de la Sayette. My selection won this race in 2023 off a mark of 87 and comes in here on 85.<\/p>\n He\u2019s not getting any younger and is an eight-year-old now, but that\u2019s not ancient for a sprinter, and there was life in the old boy three runs ago when second at Kempton. I\u2019ll chance him each way.<\/p>\n 14:25 Newbury \u2013 Lil Guff<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Here\u2019s a handicap over 5f. LIL GUFF<\/strong> is by no means a well-handicapped horse, but he\u2019s been ready to run for a while \u2013 he could have gone in the Racing League at Windsor on Thursday.<\/p>\n The Kubler family have done well with the six-year-old, who has won eight races and was a fair third at Ascot last time behind Galaxy Zoo. He was back from a break that day and may well have come on for the run. Jim Crowley is on top.<\/p>\n A handicap over 6f, which is the arm up for the main event. It\u2019s always hard to get the draw right at this track, but FORTAMOUR <\/strong>has plenty of course form, including a decent second and third here this term.<\/p>\n He\u2019s dropped a pound or two in the weights and should give Paul Mulrennan a good spin for Ben Haslam. He\u2019s a nine-time winner and knows how to score.<\/p>\n 15:00 Newbury \u2013 Jumby<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Another handicap now, but this time over 7f. JUMBY<\/strong> is a terrific servant and loves super fast ground, which he should get. Trained by Eve Johnson Houghton and ridden by Charles Bishop, Jumby is now rated 94, having been at a high of 111. He showed he can still perform when third last time at Newmarket when only beaten just over a length.<\/p>\n Jumby just needs a strong pace to run at \u2013 though pace is an issue, as there is no natural front-runner for all the very much in form. Big danger Classic made all at Sandown two runs ago.<\/p>\n 15:20 Ripon \u2013 Nostrum<\/a> (Each Way)<\/strong><\/p>\n The Great St Wilfrid Handicap over 6f \u2013 also the main event at Ripon \u2013 sees NOSTRUM <\/strong>enter as a fascinating prospect for an each way selection.<\/p>\n The five-year-old once looked a monster for Sir Michael Stoute, winning on debut at Sandown and then landing a Group 3 at Newmarket. He then ended up third in the Group 1 Dewhurst behind Chaldean<\/p>\n Nostrum was once rated 114, but he\u2019s gradually done nothing and comes into this off a mark of 104. There is no recent form I can fancy my selection on, but he goes over six furlongs for the first time in his life.<\/p>\n If running at a strong gallop is what he wants, then at least he will get it here. It\u2019s one of those that if he wins I\u2019m a hero, but no one will be surprised if he finishes last.<\/p>\n At the end of the day, he\u2019s only beaten two out of the last 32 horses he has been up against! I\u2019ll still have a few quid each way though.<\/p>\n 15:35 Newbury \u2013 Alyanaabi<\/a><\/strong> (Each Way)<\/p>\n The class race of the day in the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes over 7f. There should be a really strong gallop here, and I will change (at a huge price) to ALYANAABI <\/strong>as an eachway selection at long odds.<\/p>\n The former 2000 Guineas fifth started this season with a fine success at Haydock but hasn\u2019t done much since at the same track, Newcastle and Goodwood.<\/p>\n It\u2019s hard to know what he likes to do as he went from the front for his win, but I\u2019ve always thought settling is key for this animal, and if he\u2019s ever going to settle, it could be here off a strong gallop. Owen Burrows trains and Jim Crowley has the big job. An eachway chance.<\/p>\n So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas.
