Ireland will face Scotland, Uruguay and Portugal in Pool D at the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.<\/p>\n
Andy Farrell’s side will have familiar opponents in Scotland in their pool, the third time in a row the sides have drawn each other.<\/p>\n
If Ireland top their pool, they will face a third-place finisher in the Round of 16, with Argentina a potential quarter-final opponent, while the winner of Ireland’s pool would crucially also remain on the opposite side of the draw to defending champions South Africa and New Zealand.<\/p>\n
However, finishing second in Pool D would come at a major cost, with France the likely opponents in the Round of 16.<\/p>\n
A repeat of the 2023 final doesn’t appear to be on the cards again, with the Springboks and New Zealand on a collision course for a quarter-final meeting, if, as expected, they win their pools.<\/p>\n
New Zealand have been drawn alongside hosts Australia, Chile and debutants Hong Kong in Pool A, while the Springboks take on Italy, Georgia and Romania in Pool B.<\/p>\n
Argentina will be expected to come out on top in Pool C, with Fiji, Spain and Canada their opponents.<\/p>\n
France are in Pool E, with Japan, USA and Samoa their opposition.<\/p>\n
And Pool F sees neighbours England and Wales alongside Tonga and Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n
The top two in each pool will progress to the Round of 16, along with the four best third-place teams.<\/p>\n
World Rugby will confirm the fixtures schedule on Tuesday, 3 February.<\/p>\n
