Garrett Advancing Motion is situated at an advanced manufacturing facility located in Unit 411, IDA Industrial Estate, Cork Road, Waterford city.<\/p>\n
The company is involved in \u201ccutting-edge technology\u201d delivering \u201cdifferentiated solutions that increase energy efficiency and reduce emissions for turbo, hybrid and electrified applications.\u201d Garrett has been a major employer in Waterford for years, with some employees having given long years of service.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday they are seeking voluntary redundancies among their 172 staff. \u201cAt Garrett, we continuously evaluate the market and adapt our strategy to remain competitive and meet our commitments to customers,\u201d said a company spokesperson.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn this context, we confirm the announcement of a voluntary redundancy plan at our Waterford facility, affecting 36 of the 172 total staff members. The plan will be implemented during the first half of 2026. We are dedicated to supporting those affected and will comply with all local regulations throughout this process.\u201d<\/p>\n
A joint statement issued by SF Cllr Conor McGuinness and SF TD David Cullinane stated: \u201cWe are deeply concerned by reports of a significant number of voluntary redundancies being sought at Garrett Advancing Motion in Waterford. This news will cause real distress and uncertainty for workers and their families, particularly in the run-up to Christmas.<\/p>\n
\u201cGarrett has been a major employer in Waterford for decades, with many employees having given long service to the company. Any threat to jobs at the plant is a serious matter for the workforce and for the wider local economy.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are urging Garrett Advancing Motion to immediately clarify its position, to engage openly with staff and their representatives, and to outline what plans are in place to protect employment at the facility. Workers deserve clear answers and certainty about their future.<\/p>\n
