Adam Scott has plenty of experience with the horrific and weird, having starred in the likes of\u00a0Severance<\/a>, Little Evil, Krampus, Piranha 3D,\u00a0and\u00a0Hellraiser: Bloodline<\/a>. Earlier this year, we learned that he\u2019s adding to his genre r\u00e9sum\u00e9 with\u00a0the supernatural horror film\u00a0Hokum, which was filmed on location in Ireland. A few months ago, it was announced that NEON and Waypoint Entertainment\u2019s Cweature Features have boarded the project, with NEON planning to give the film a theatrical release in the United States sometime in\u00a02026\u2026 and now we know exactly when that release is going to happen. A press release has revealed that Hokum will reach theatres on May 1, 2026<\/strong>. Along with the release date announcement comes the unveiling of the first image from the film, which can be seen at the bottom of this article.<\/p>\n

What is Hokum about?<\/p>\n

Hokum\u00a0is coming our way from writer\/director Damian McCarthy, whose horror film\u00a0Oddity\u00a0is said to have \u201ccaused a stir after premiering at SXSW, where it won the audience award in the Midnighter section.\u201d That movie made its way out into the world last summer, telling the story of \u201ca blind medium and curio shopkeeper who is still grieving the death of her twin sister a year prior when a wooden mannequin from her collection becomes crucial to her quest to uncover the truth about her sister\u2019s murder.\u201d The story McCarthy has crafted for\u00a0Hokum\u00a0will see Scott taking on the role of\u00a0a horror novelist who visits a remote Irish inn to spread his parents\u2019 ashes, unaware the place is rumored to be haunted by a witch.\u00a0Here\u2019s the synopsis:\u00a0When reclusive novelist Ohm Bauman (Scott) retreats to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents\u2019 ashes, the staff\u2019s tales of an ancient witch haunting the honeymoon suite take hold of his mind. Soon, disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance draw him into a nightmarish confrontation with the darkest corners of his past.\u00a0Scott is joined in the cast by Peter Coonan (Bad Sisters)\u00a0and David Wilmot (Bodkin).<\/p>\n

Cweature Features are co-producers on the project, joining Image Nation and Spooky Pictures, as well as Team Thrives, who co-financed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hokum\u00a0is being produced by\u00a0Spooky\u00a0Pictures\u2019\u00a0Roy Lee and Steven Schneider, Image Nation\u2019s Derek Dauchy, and Tailored Film\u2019s Ruth Treacy, Julianne Forde, and Mairt\u00edn de Barra. Ben Ross,\u00a0Dan Kagan,\u00a0Rami Yasin,\u00a0and Andrew Childs\u00a0serve as executive producers.\u00a0The project is also supported by co-production funding from Screen Ireland\/ F\u00eds \u00c9ireann.\u00a0<\/p>\n
