The Duke of Sussex made jokes about Donald Trump<\/a> during an unexpected appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert<\/a> including a 7-word takedown branding the US<\/a> President a “king”. Harry appeared in a comedy sketch that aired on Wednesday night, playing himself as he auditions to become a Hallmark movie \u201cChristmas prince\u201d. In the segment, the duke wandered through the studio, joking that he has become lost while searching for an audition for the \u201cGingerbread Christmas Prince saves Christmas in Nebraska\u201d.<\/p>\n

Colbert asks why a real prince would want to star in such films, prompting Harry to reply: \u201cYou Americans are obsessed with Christmas movies, and you\u2019re clearly obsessed with royalty<\/a>, so why not?\u201d When Colbert pushed back on the idea of an American \u201cobsession,\u201d Harry quipped: \u201cReally? I hear you elected a king,\u201d in an apparent reference to the \u201cNo Kings\u201d protests directed at the Trump administration.<\/p>\n

Referencing CBS\u2019 recent settlement with Mr Trump, the duke joked that he would \u201cdo anything\u201d to get the part, adding: \u201cI\u2019ll record a self-tape, I\u2019ll fly myself to an audition, settle a baseless lawsuit with the White House \u2014 all the things you people in TV do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Colbert replied: \u201cHey, I didn\u2019t do any of those things,\u201d to which Harry shot back: \u201cMaybe that\u2019s why you\u2019re cancelled.\u201d<\/p>\n

The sketch then transformed into a festive spectacle, with trees appearing and sleigh bells ringing as Harry urged Colbert to \u201cjust believe\u201d.<\/p>\n

Colbert later told Harry he \u201cgot the role\u201d of \u201cofficial Late Show prince of Christmas\u201d to cheers from the crowd.<\/p>\n

The pair first teased the guest spot in a video featuring a viral Great British Bake Off soundbite on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Colbert\u2019s other guests were Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon and Irish actress and singer Jessie Buckley.<\/p>\n

Wednesday\u2019s visit was the duke\u2019s second Late Show appearance, having last appeared in January 2023 to promote his memoir Spare.<\/p>\n

Harry\u2019s first appearance on the show set a two-year viewership record and made international headlines.<\/p>\n

The announcement of Wednesday night\u2019s appearance was also shared by the Duchess of Sussex, who previewed the clip on her Instagram<\/a> story.<\/p>\n
