Clary | Afp | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>After shaking off some of the weakness at the start of the month, markets seemed to be ready to board Santa&#8217;s sleigh, and rode into a second straight day of gains this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday&#8217;s rally was on the back of surprisingly weak private jobs data, with payrolls processing firm ADP&#8217;s November report showing 32,000 job losses, sharply missing the 40,000 gain expected by economists polled by Dow Jones.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This further strengthened investors&#8217; conviction that the U.S. Federal Reserve will cut rates in its final meeting of the year on Dec. 9-10.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But before one starts celebrating like Charlie Bucket who has found a golden ticket to Willy Wonka&#8217;s chocolate factory, remember, what looks like a catalyst for portfolios in the short term can mask economic weakness in the longer term if job losses continue.<\/p>\n<p>For now, markets are savoring the sugar rush, but whether this rally lasts is anyone&#8217;s guess.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"headline0\"\/>What you need to know today<\/p>\n<p><strong>Huang talks chip restrictions.<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/NVDA\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nvidia<\/a>\u00a0CEO Jensen Huang said he met with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/donald-trump\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">President Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0on Wednesday and that the two men<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/12\/03\/nvidias-jensen-huang-talks-chip-controls-with-trump-hits-regulation.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> discussed chip export restrictions<\/a>, as lawmakers consider a proposal to limit exports of advanced artificial intelligence chips to nations like China.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quantum computing in Singapore. <\/strong>Singapore-based software firm Horizon Quantum on Wednesday said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/12\/04\/horizon-quantum-software-startup-deploys-singapores-first-quantum-computer-for-commercial-use.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">it has become the first private company<\/a> to run a quantum computer for commercial use in the city-state, ahead of its plans to list in the U.S.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Putin in India.<\/strong> New Delhi is all set to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/12\/03\/india-russia-putin-meeting-tariffs-new-delhi-moscow-trade.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">host Russian President Vladimir Putin<\/a> for a two-day visit from Thursday, signaling its determination to deepen ties with Moscow. Putin will be in India for the 23rd India-Russia annual summit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Markets climb on rate-cut hopes.<\/strong> All <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/12\/02\/stock-market-today-live-updates.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">three U.S. indexes rose<\/a> as traders bet on a Fed rate cut on the back of weak job numbers. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.DJI\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a> was the largest gainer, up 0.86%.
