{"id":21548,"date":"2025-08-25T05:29:17","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T05:29:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/21548\/"},"modified":"2025-08-25T05:29:17","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T05:29:17","slug":"naomh-aban-through-to-pifc-knockout-phase-after-strong-finish-against-glanmire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/21548\/","title":{"rendered":"Naomh Ab\u00e1n through to PIFC knockout phase after strong finish against Glanmire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">\n             Naomh Ab\u00e1n 1-10 (1-0-10) Glanmire 0-8 (0-1-6\n        <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Naomh Ab\u00e1n finished strong to book their place in the knockout stages of the McCarthy Insurance Group Premier IFC as they defeated Glanmire in Coachford on Sunday evening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A coolly converted penalty by D\u00f3nal \u00d3 Ceallaigh when the teams were level with seven minutes remaining proved to be decisive as Naomh Ab\u00e1n made it two wins out of two in Group 2.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Both sides were victorious in their opening fixture just over three weeks ago, Glanmire defeating Bandon while Naomh Ab\u00e1n overcame Rockchapel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Bandon and Rockchapel\u2019s 1-12 apiece draw on Saturday meant that these two sides remained joint top of the standings \u2013 although Naomh Ab\u00e1n claimed first place on scoring difference \u2013 heading into this fixture, giving the winners a chance to seal their place in the knockout rounds.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/4754795_7_articleinlinemobile_DKE240825Football002.jpg\" alt=\" Naomh Ab\u00e1n manager Jimmy Allen.\u00a0Picture: David Keane.\" title=\" Naomh Ab\u00e1n manager Jimmy Allen.\u00a0Picture: David Keane.\" class=\"card-img\"\/> Naomh Ab\u00e1n manager Jimmy Allen.\u00a0Picture: David Keane.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Glanmire were dealt a blow shortly before throw-in as Ronan McSweeney was forced to withdraw after injuring his ankle in the warm-up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Despite opening the scoring with a Daniel Molden free, the late change soon took its toll as Naomh Ab\u00e1n scored five points without reply by the end of the first quarter, the pick of the scores coming from Darragh \u00d3 Laoire and D\u00f3nal \u00d3 Ceallaigh.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">But Glanmire hit back impressively early in the second quarter as they levelled terms by the 24th minute, with Molden\u2019s two-point free helping to swing momentum in their favour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The two teams soon swapped points before an Ed \u00d3 M\u00edr free \u2013 he took over responsibility for dead-ball situations after Maidhc \u00d3 Duinn\u00edn withdrew with a knock \u2013 edged Naomh Ab\u00e1n into a 0-7 to 0-6 lead at the break.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Glanmire, who also picked up three yellow cards in the first period, started the second with 14 men after substitute Harry Jones was shown a black card before the interval.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">But they dug deep and shortly after his sin bin had ended, it was Jones who kicked them in front with 19 minutes remaining, 0-8 to 0-7.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/4754798_7_articleinlinemobile_DKE240825Football008.jpg\" alt=\" Glanmire's James Crowley has his shot blocked by Ed \u00d3 M\u00edr, Naomh Ab\u00e1n, during their Premier IFC clash at Coachford.
