Following last weekend’s Instant Dance challenge, Strictly Come Dancing is set to introduce another new twist to proceedings. In this weekend’s Musicals Week, the show will air a “relay performance” for the remaining couples.<\/p>\n

The five-minute segment will see the stars “take to the floor as part of a high-energy celebration of musicals”, where they do relay routines to songs from a variety of shows.<\/p>\n

Aiming to get votes from viewers, Amber Davies and Nikita Kuzmin will dance to ‘Trip A Little Light Fantastic’ from Mary Poppins Returns, while Balvinder Sopal and Julian Caillon will take to the floor with My Fair Lady’s ‘With A Little Bit Of Luck’.<\/p>\n

George Clarke and Alexis Warr will be looking to impress with their routine to ‘Consider Yourself’ from Oliver!, while Karen Carney and Carlos Gu will dance to ‘Flash Bang Wallop’ from Half A Sixpence, and finally Lewis Cope and Katya Jones will try and prove themselves with a dance to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’s ‘Me Ol’ Bamboo’.<\/p>\n

The couples will then dance through their standard routines<\/a> during the course of the episode, before viewers get the chance to vote as per usual.<\/p>\n

Matt Flint has choreographed the dance relay segment, which will also include eight backing dancers and will start and finish with all the couples on the dancefloor.<\/p>\n

It comes after the Instant Dance challenge last week, which saw the remaining contestants do an on-the-fly routine after opening an envelope. Viewers praised the new show addition<\/a>, one branding it “absolute chaos” and a potential “BAFTA winning moment”.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, this weekend’s Musicals Week will also feature a Chicago-inspired routine from the professionals, as well as a visit from Paddington as former contestant Tom Fletcher returns to the ballroom<\/a> to promote the new West End musical about the bear.<\/p>\n

Last weekend saw Alex Kingston eliminated from the show<\/a> after losing a dance-off to Balvinder, the Doctor Who star saying afterwards: “I had never in my wildest dreams imagined that I would last this long. It’s been just the most incredible journey for me.”<\/p>\n

Strictly Come Dancing<\/strong> airs on Saturdays on BBC One, while spin-off <\/strong>Strictly: It Takes Two<\/strong> airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.<\/strong><\/p>\n
