{"id":217648,"date":"2025-12-05T23:58:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-05T23:58:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/217648\/"},"modified":"2025-12-05T23:58:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T23:58:09","slug":"gaelcholaiste-mhuire-snatch-it-late-after-brilliant-battle-with-cbc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/217648\/","title":{"rendered":"Gaelchol\u00e1iste Mhuire snatch it late after brilliant battle with CBC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">\n             Gaelchol\u00e1iste Mhuire 1-19\u00a0\n        <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\n             Christian Brothers College 1-17\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">It took late rescue acts from Craig \u00d3 Suilleabh\u00e1in and L\u00facas \u00d3 Muirthile, but Gaelchol\u00e1iste Mhuire are back-to-back O\u2019Callaghan Cup champions after a thrilling win over Christian Brothers College at SuperValu P\u00e1irc U\u00ed Chaoimh on Friday evening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">With the clock in red and only the few minutes of added time to go, the teams were deadlocked at 1-16 apiece. \u00d3 Suilleabh\u00e1in won a crucial free, and under pressure from the CBC crowd, Gabh\u00e1n \u00d3 Ceallach\u00e1in slotted over coolly to creep the AG back in front.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">After Bobby Power had his shot blocked by Josh \u00d3 Brosnach\u00e1in \u2013 who was outstanding for the AG \u2013 Hugo Rafferty picked up the stray sliotar and shot over. Level for the eighth time, 63 minutes played.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The AG stormed forward once more. Joe \u00d3 Riain sent Callum \u00d3 Cofaigh through. He shrugged off the challenge from Eoghan O\u2019Shea, and fired straight between the posts. Picture: Eddie O&#8217;Hare<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">It\u2019s history for the AG, they may not have a Harty quarter-final to play next year, but they come away from the P\u00e1irc as deserving winners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The AG had powered into the early lead with the wind, 0-3 to 0-1 ahead after eight minutes, but they couldn\u2019t shake Christians off.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Senan Brislane \u2013 on as a temporary sub \u2013 delivered a ball in that caused a defensive mix-up for the AG, and Se\u00e1n Hurley was poised and ready. The \u00c9ire \u00d3g clubman scooped up the loose ball, fired across goal and nudged Christians ahead, 1-1 to 0-4, after 10 minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u00d3 Ceallach\u00e1in nailed a few frees and they almost found a major when Ryan \u00d3 Cr\u00f3in\u00edn sent Callum \u00d3 Cofaigh racing through on goal. Picture: Eddie O&#8217;Hare<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Trevor \u00d3 Bruadau sent his fellow wing-back Se\u00e1n J \u00d3 D\u00e1laigh galloping down the flank, and he slotted over from an outrageous distance to send Gaelchol\u00e1iste Mhuire in at the break with a point to spare.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Immediately on the resumption the AG went for the throat, \u00d3 Muirthile running through on goal before squaring it across to clubmate Callum \u00d3 Cofaigh, but Flood leapt in the way to block it with his body. Though the AG crowd could sense what was coming.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The AG would spend much of the second half hanging on against the wind, and by the 50th minute, their lead had been cut to the minimum, 1-13 to 1-12.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">It would take CBC until the 58th minute to draw level, and when they did, it set up a finish for the neutral.
