{"id":217922,"date":"2025-12-06T03:54:15","date_gmt":"2025-12-06T03:54:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/217922\/"},"modified":"2025-12-06T03:54:15","modified_gmt":"2025-12-06T03:54:15","slug":"bruno-mars-lady-gagas-die-with-a-smile-was-almost-scrapped","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/217922\/","title":{"rendered":"Bruno Mars &#038; Lady Gaga&#8217;s &#8216;Die With a Smile&#8217; Was Almost Scrapped"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThis year, \u201cDie With a Smile\u201d by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/lady-gaga\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Lady Gaga<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/bruno-mars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Bruno Mars<\/a> spent five weeks at No. 1 on the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/charts\/hot-100\/\">Billboard Hot 100<\/a> and won a Grammy for best pop duo\/group performance \u2014 but apparently, the track almost didn\u2019t see the light of day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn an interview with <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/music\/news\/lady-gaga-bruno-mars-die-with-a-smile-making-of-song-1236599489\/\">Variety<\/a> published Thursday (Dec. 4), producers James Fauntleroy and Dernst \u201cD\u2019Mile\u201d Emile II revealed that after first writing parts of the song three years ago, the Silk Sonic star scrapped it and forgot about it entirely. That is, until Mars learned that Mother Monster would be starring in Joker: Folie a Deux opposite Joaquin Phoenix, which he thought would be the perfect project for the long-shelved ballad.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cHe was such a genius for pulling that out of the back of his subconscious memory because of the timing of that movie, which is also how Lady Gaga came into his mind as a collaborator,\u201d Fauntleroy told the publication. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe team had initially thought \u201cDie With a Smile\u201d could pair well with the film or Gaga\u2019s accompanying concept album, Harlequin, but it ended up as a cut on the singer-actress\u2019 <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/charts\/billboard-200\/\">Billboard 200<\/a>-topping Mayhem album instead. \u201cWhen we found out that wasn\u2019t gonna be a thing, he had already kind of started the ball rolling, because the power of Bruno compels you,\u201d Fauntleroy continued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tGaga apparently loved \u201cDie With a Smile\u201d as soon as she heard it. \u201cI knew she could play the piano, but watching her actually sit down like a musician and learn the chords, so much so that she actually asked for a pen and paper and wrote the chords down \u2026 This is unheard of,\u201d the hitmaker added to Variety. \u201cShe learned the f\u2013king song, dude, right there. And they were performing, singing it together. And that\u2019s when I should have known it was going to be something special.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn addition to its Hot 100 reign, \u201cDie With a Smile\u201d spent an eye-popping 18 weeks atop the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/charts\/billboard-global-200\/\">Billboard Global 200<\/a>.
