Meghan Markle has reached out to her estranged father Thomas Markle<\/a> following reports that his leg has been amputated. A spokesperson for the Duchess of Sussex told T&C this afternoon that Meghan had \u201creached out,\u201d saying, \u201cI can confirm she has reached out to her father.\u201d<\/p>\n

There was no further information. It remains unclear if this was an attempt to have contact with him or if they have actually spoken. It is believed that Meghan has tried to reach out to her father since they became estranged following her May 2018 wedding.<\/p>\n

Reports first circulated in the Daily Mail this week that Thomas Markle was in a stable condition and in intensive care following surgery. The publication later revealed that he had his leg amputated. The newspaper reported that the 81-year-old had a three-hour operation on Wednesday \u201cto remove his left foot and lower leg after a blood clot cut off circulation and the limb turned black.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Markle currently lives in the Philippines. He has never met Prince Harry or his grandchildren Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four. He was due to attend his daughter\u2019s Windsor wedding to Harry in 2018 but pulled out due to ill health<\/a>. Instead, then Prince Charles walked Meghan down part of the aisle<\/a> in St George\u2019s Chapel after she traveled to the chapel by car with her mother, Doria Ragland.<\/p>\n

Meghan’s half-brother Thomas Jr. told the Daily Mail<\/a> about his father’s operation, \u201cMy dad is being very brave. His foot turned blue and then black. It happened very quickly. I took him to a local hospital and they did some scans and an ultrasound and said the leg had to be amputated.\u201d The newspaper also reported that he will need another operation.<\/p>\n

The news comes as Meghan’s Netflix holiday special airs this week<\/a>. The show focuses on cooking and crafting with family and friends during the Christmas period. As with the two series of her With Love, Meghan show that aired earlier this year, it has received mixed reviews.<\/p>\n
