{"id":218460,"date":"2025-12-06T11:29:11","date_gmt":"2025-12-06T11:29:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/218460\/"},"modified":"2025-12-06T11:29:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-06T11:29:11","slug":"dairygold-firm-gets-go-ahead-for-436-new-homes-in-south-dublin-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/218460\/","title":{"rendered":"Dairygold firm gets go ahead for 436 new homes in south Dublin \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The green light has been given to a large-scale 436 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/apartment\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/apartment\/\">apartment<\/a> development in Walkinstown, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\/\">Dublin<\/a>, after the withdrawal of a third-party appeal against the planning permission, planning documents reveal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The homes are set to be built in an industrial estate, with the owners of nearby commercial units fearing the development would lead to conflict between their operations and homeowners\u2019 rights to quiet enjoyment. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The planning permission was sought by Watfore Ltd \u2013 a development and property management subsidiary of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dairygold\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dairygold\/\">Dairygold Co-op<\/a> \u2013 to demolish the existing site before building four apartment blocks ranging between six and 10 storeys in height.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The development is set to be built in the Parkmore Industrial Estate on the Long Mile Road in Walkinstown. In addition to the 436 apartments, the plans include a community library, cafe and commercial units.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/south-dublin-county-council\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/south-dublin-county-council\/\">South Dublin County Council<\/a> (SDCC) initially granted permission for the development in July, noting the development would represent \u201cappropriate scale and density\u201d for the area and would fit into the council\u2019s plans to increase housing delivery. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A third-party appeal was launched in August by the owners of another unit in the estate. They had raised concerns that locating residential properties in an industrial estate would \u201clead to conflicts\u201d between the homeowners aspirations and the \u201cday-to-day realities of operations within a live industrial estate\u201d among other concerns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">On Monday, SDCC was notified the appeal was withdrawn and issued a final grant of permission.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Separately, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/an-coimisiun-pleanala\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/an-coimisiun-pleanala\" target=\"_blank\">An Coimisi\u00fan Plean\u00e1la<\/a> has struck down an appeal by a subsidiary of housing developer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/lioncor\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/lioncor\/\">Lioncor<\/a> against the rejection by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/wicklow-county-council\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/wicklow-county-council\/\">Wicklow County Council<\/a> of planning permission for 666 homes in Kilbride, Co. Wicklow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The proposed development was to be part of a 1,500 home master plan with an estimated price tag of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2025\/06\/16\/lioncor-lodges-plans-for-residential-scheme-in-arklow\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2025\/06\/16\/lioncor-lodges-plans-for-residential-scheme-in-arklow\/\">\u20ac710 million on the outskirts of Arklow<\/a>. It was set to be made up of 578 semidetached and terraced houses and 88 apartments, with a creche and walking bridge across the Arklow marsh and the Avoca river.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The rejected large-scale residential development application is the second phase of the master plan, with a further 750 homes planned for the third phase of the development.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The council had cited concerns over the construction time frame of a bridge included in the plans, the number of homes representing overdevelopment of the area, the ecological impact of the project and that the development would lead to the population targets for the area being \u201cmaterially exceeded\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Following the initial rejection of planning permission by the council, an appeal was taken to An Coimisi\u00fan Plean\u00e1la.
