Two friends setting out for a morning mountain hike in the Middle East had no idea they were about to save two lives.<\/p>\n

It all began with a chance discovery made while passing by a disused reservoir pool nestled deep within the rugged landscape.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were on our way up the mountain early in the morning when we suddenly noticed something unusual inside the reservoir,\u201d hiker Saeed Saedi<\/a> told The Dodo.<\/p>\n

Moving in for a closer look, the hikers realized there were two animals inside.<\/p>\n

\u201c[We] realized they had fallen in and were completely trapped,\u201d Saedi said. \u201cThen they stood up, and that\u2019s when we understood for sure that they were badgers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sensing the hikers\u2019 approach, the badgers attempted to run away, but to no avail. The reservoir\u2019s steep walls made it impossible for them to escape.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt really felt like they had been stuck there for quite a while, and we knew we had to help \u2014 there was no question about it,\u201d Saedi said.<\/p>\n

Not wanting to stress the badgers more, Saedi and his friend didn\u2019t attempt to grab them. Instead, they decided to get creative.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe started gathering rocks and stacking them to create a platform they could climb,\u201d Saedi said.<\/p>\n

And sure enough, their plan worked:<\/p>\n

\u201c[They] managed to escape,\u201d Saedi said. \u201cSeeing them finally climb out and run off \u2014 looking healthy and full of energy \u2014 was an amazing feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n

With that simple act of kindness, Saedi and his friend had saved two lives.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt definitely brightened our day, and we continued our hike to the summit with a really good feeling and a great memory,\u201d Saedi said. \u201cI\u2019d absolutely encourage anyone to help an animal in need if they ever come across a situation like this. A small action can make a huge difference.\u201d<\/p>\n
