The National Gallery<\/a> in London has unveiled the shortlist for a new wing to support the museum\u2019s<\/a> expanding collection. The project forms part of Project Domani, the museum\u2019s \u00a3750 million ($1 billion) overhaul, which aims to make it \u201cthe only place in the world where visitors can view the entire history of painting in the Western tradition.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Gallery\u2019s wing will be built on the site of the last remaining part of the National Gallery\u2019s current campus: St Vincent House at 30 Orange Street. The property was acquired by the gallery nearly 30 years ago for the purpose of expanding gallery space and currently houses a hotel and office complex.<\/p>\n

The international competition for the new wing attracted 65 submissions. The six shortlisted firms will now take part in a design competition, with the final architect and wider technical team appointed by April 2026.<\/p>\n
