The 41st annual IDA Documentary Awards<\/a> brunch held on December 6 at the Los Angeles Athletic Club assembled the nonfiction community to celebrate the best television and film<\/a> documentaries of 2025.
Dozens of global IDA jurors voted on more than 550 entries in all categories from 85 countries.<\/p>\n

The winner of Best Feature Documentary, \u201cThe Tale of Silyan<\/a>,\u201d beat out nominees \u201cApocalypse in the Tropics<\/a>\u201d (Netflix<\/a>), which did win two awards, for Best Writing and Best Production, \u201cLife After\u201d (Multitude Films), \u201cSongs of Slow Burning Earth\u201d (EPF Media) and \u201cSeeds,\u201d which also won Best Director for Brittany Shyne. The Sundance U.S. Grand Jury prize winner, among many other IDA contenders, still lacks distribution.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Tale of Silyan\u201d also won Best Cinematography. Kevin Macdonald\u2019s \u201cOne to One: John & Yoko\u201d won Best Music Documentary.<\/p>\n

Winning the top IDA award pushes NatGeo\u2019s moving portrait of a failing farm community, \u201cThe Tale of Silyan,\u201d from the filmmakers behind North Macedonia\u2019s twice-nominated documentary \u201cHoneyland,\u201d ahead in the Oscar race. <\/p>\n

\"JohmJohn Lennon and Yoko Ono in New York during the 70sBen Ross & Leonora Golberg<\/p>\n

Winning Best Curated Series was France\u2019s \u201c99,\u201d executive-produced by J\u00e9r\u00f4me Plan; Best Episodic Series went to PBS\u2019 \u201cCitizen Nation.\u201d <\/p>\n

Among the special awards, American documentary filmmaker Julie Goldman accepted the Career Achievement Award; Brittany Shyne (\u201cSeeds\u201d) the Emerging Filmmaker Award; and Impact
Partners the Pioneer Award.<\/p>\n
