From <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/google-search-ai-overviews-health\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">error-ridden AI Overviews<\/a> to AI slop <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/google-image-corn-ai-slop\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">dominating<\/a> Google\u2019s image search results, users have had to put up with a lot of needless and often easily avoidable nonsense.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">Now, Google Discover, the firm\u2019s personalized content feed that\u2019s heavily featured on Android phones, is showing users misleading and seemingly AI-generated headlines that replace the actual ones on articles, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/ai-artificial-intelligence\/835839\/google-discover-ai-headlines-clickbait-nonsense\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Verge reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">It\u2019s yet another annoying feature that not only will lead to plenty of confusion, but it also directly undermines the agency of online publications, highlighting a <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/google-ai-destroying-news-media\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">deteriorating relationship between Google and the news media<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">\u201cBG3 players exploit children,\u201d reads one headline, referring to the popular role-playing video game \u201cBaldur\u2019s Gate 3.\u201d The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/baldurs-gate\/child-labor-is-unbeatable-baldurs-gate-3-players-discover-how-to-build-an-army-of-unkillable-kids-through-the-power-of-polymorph-and-german-media-laws\/\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">actual piece by PC Gamer<\/a> is about how players have discovered how to clone virtual children inside the popular game to break it \u2014 and isn\u2019t an instance of actual child labor, as the dumbed-down headline suggests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">A separate four-word headline The Verge spotted claimed \u201cSteam Machine price revealed\u201d \u2014 even though game company Valve has yet to announce the price of its upcoming console. The <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/gaming\/2025\/11\/valves-steam-machine-looks-like-a-console-but-dont-expect-it-to-be-priced-like-one\/\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">original headline by Ars Technica<\/a> reads: \u201cValve\u2019s Steam Machine looks like a console, but don\u2019t expect it to be priced like one.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">Google acknowledges in a small notice below a short description of the content on Discover that some elements of its links are \u201cgenerated with AI, which can make mistakes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">But that leaves the question of why the company chose to add bungled headlines to its Discover feature in the first place. What are its misleading, four-word headlines doing better than the often carefully crafted ones written by human editors?
