{"id":219709,"date":"2025-12-07T06:23:18","date_gmt":"2025-12-07T06:23:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/219709\/"},"modified":"2025-12-07T06:23:18","modified_gmt":"2025-12-07T06:23:18","slug":"call-for-safety-review-at-a-limerick-junction-after-collisions-spark-concern-among-locals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/219709\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for safety review at a Limerick junction after collisions spark concern among locals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"247\" data-end=\"439\">A FORMAL safety review has been requested for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Sherins Cross, Dromin near Kilmallock<\/a> after a number of serious collisions at the busy rural junction prompted fresh concern among councillors and residents.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"441\" data-end=\"709\">At the November meeting of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/309\/politics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Cappamore\u2013Kilmallock Municipal District<\/a>, Cllr PJ Carey supported a joint motion from himself and Cllr Greg Conway calling for an official inspection of the crossroads to determine what measures are needed to make the area safer.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"711\" data-end=\"1133\">Speaking after the meeting, Cllr Carey said the situation has escalated in recent weeks. \u201cThere was a bad crash two or three weeks ago,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"711\" data-end=\"1133\">\u201cAn elderly woman coming out of Dromin, turning for Kilmallock, was hit by a driver travelling from Kilmallock to Bruff. The sightlines are poor enough in fairness. There\u2019s no suggestion the man was speeding or doing anything wrong it\u2019s just a dangerous junction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"711\" data-end=\"1133\">Read More:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/community\/1951425\/new-lease-of-life-for-landmark-building-on-the-banks-of-the-river-shannon.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">New lease of life for landmark building on the banks of the River Shannon<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1135\" data-end=\"1359\">Cllr Carey said locals regularly report difficulty exiting the crossroads safely. \u201cYou wouldn&#8217;t want to be hanging about you literally have a second or two to get out of there\u201d\u00a0.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1361\" data-end=\"1638\">The area is also heavily used by school buses, which pick up children at the junction each morning, increasing the urgency for safety improvements.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1640\" data-end=\"2009\">While major infrastructural works would require significant funding, Cllr Carey said he is prepared to allocate General Municipal Allocation (GMA) funding to begin traffic-calming measures if necessary. \u201cYou\u2019re never going to get a ramp on a busy road like that,\u201d he said. \u201cBut you can slow people down.
