For years, the agency has been paying out more benefits than it takes in via payroll taxes.<\/p>\n<p>Scripps News<\/p>\n<p>The third Social Security payment for the month of August is set to be distributed to recipients this week. However, here&#8217;s your reminder that those who were previously overpaid by the Social Security Administration may see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/06\/29\/social-security-overpayment-changes-july-2025\/84372927007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">smaller benefit checks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s because the agency is expected to begin withholding 50% of benefits for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/07\/20\/social-security-benefits-overpayments-july-2025\/85210563007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">those who have been overpaid<\/a> but have not begun making repayments.<\/p>\n<p>A February 2025 report by the <a href=\"https:\/\/oig.ssa.gov\/assets\/uploads\/062405.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SSA&#8217;s Office of the Inspector General<\/a> found the agency overpaid $13.6 billion in Social Security benefits during fiscal years 2020 to 2023, though the SSA has not said how many people have been overpaid.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what you need to know about this week&#8217;s Social Security payment.<\/p>\n<p>Who gets their Social Security payment this week?<\/p>\n<p>Beneficiaries who were born on the 21st through the 31st date of their birth month are set to receive their monthly Social Security benefit on Wednesday, Aug. 27, according to the SSA&#8217;s payment calendar.<\/p>\n<p>When are Social Security payments sent?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/06\/18\/social-security-shortfall-benefits-retirement\/84261121007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Social Security benefits<\/a> \u2013 paid mostly to recipients who are older or retired \u2013 are typically paid on Wednesdays.<\/p>\n<p>If a recipient&#8217;s birthdate is between the first and 10th of the month, they are issued payments on the second Wednesday of the payment month, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2025.pdf?ftag=MSFd61514f\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to the SSA&#8217;s calendar<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Recipients born between the 11th and 20th are paid on the third Wednesday, and those born after the 20th of the month get payments on the fourth Wednesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2025.pdf?ftag=MSFd61514f\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to the SSA payment calendar<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Full 2025 Social Security payment calendarSSI payment schedule for August, rest of 2025 and into 2026<\/p>\n<p>Recipients of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/05\/28\/ssi-payment-check-schedule-june\/83843176007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Supplemental Security Income checks<\/a> should have received payments on the first business day of the month, which was Friday, Aug. 1.<\/p>\n<p>SSI checks will be sent out on the following dates in 2025 and early 2026, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2025.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to the SSA calendar<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Friday, Aug. 29, 2025 (Check for September 2025)<\/li>\n<li>Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025 (Check for October 2025)<\/li>\n<li>Friday, Oct. 31, 2025 (Check for November 2025)<\/li>\n<li>Monday, Dec. 1, 2025 (Check for December 2025)<\/li>\n<li>Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025 (Check for January 2026)<\/li>\n<li>Friday, Jan. 30, 2026 (Check for February 2026)<\/li>\n<li>Friday, Feb. 27, 2026 (Check for March 2026)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Fernando Cervantes Jr. is a trending news reporter for USA TODAY.
