LONDON, Dec 8 \u2014 Kate Winslet has delivered a scathing critique of the widespread use of weight loss drugs like Ozempic, calling the trend \u201cdevastating\u201d and a \u201cterrifying\u201d disregard for personal health.<\/p>\n
In a candid new interview with The Sunday Times, the 50-year-old Oscar winner did not hold back, describing the current situation as \u201cf—— chaos.\u201d<\/p>\n
Winslet expressed her concern that self-esteem is becoming dangerously tied to physical appearance and questioned whether people using the drugs truly understand what they are putting into their bodies.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe disregard for one\u2019s health is terrifying. It bothers me now more than ever,\u201d she said, adding that she is puzzled by the mixed messages she sees.<\/p>\n
While some actresses are embracing their natural shapes, \u201cso many people are on weight-loss drugs… others do everything they can to not be themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n
The issue is deeply personal for Winslet, who skyrocketed to fame at 19 in Titanic and was immediately subjected to intense public scrutiny and body shaming.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe media was vile, singling me out for relentless bullying,\u201d she recalled of her early days in Hollywood. \u201cI was so young, but I felt so invaded.\u201d<\/p>\n
She has previously said she wishes she could \u201cturn back the clock\u201d and stand up to the \u201cborderline abusive\u201d treatment she endured, stating she was \u201ca young woman, my body is changing, I\u2019m figuring it out, I\u2019m deeply insecure, I\u2019m terrified, don\u2019t make this any harder than it already is.\u201d<\/p>\n
Today, Winslet blames \u201csocial media and its effect on mental health\u201d for the \u201cidea of perfection\u201d young women are aspiring to.<\/p>\n
She said true beauty is found in the signs of a life lived, not in artificial ideals.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy favourite thing is when your hands get old,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s life, in your hands.
