{"id":224574,"date":"2025-12-09T23:38:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-09T23:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/224574\/"},"modified":"2025-12-09T23:38:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-09T23:38:08","slug":"bob-vylan-launches-defamation-action-against-rte","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/224574\/","title":{"rendered":"Bob Vylan launches defamation action against RT\u00c9"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Members of British punk-rap duo <strong>Bob Vylan<\/strong> have filed <strong>defamation<\/strong> proceedings against national broadcaster <strong>RT\u00c9<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The group, which performed at Dublin\u2019s Vicar Street last month, allege that RT\u00c9 engaged in defamation by saying the lead singer led <strong>antisemitic chants<\/strong> during a Glastonbury performance.<\/p>\n<p>The band gained significant attention when frontman Pascal Robinson-Foster led a chant of \u201cdeath, death to the IDF\u201d during a BBC livestreamed performance at the Glastonbury Festival in Somerset in June.<\/p>\n<p>Records in the High Court show documents were filed by Phoenix Law on behalf of Robinson-Foster and drummer Wade Laurence George on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The firm said: \u201cThe proceedings arise from a broadcast aired by RT\u00c9 News following Bob Vylan\u2019s performance at Glastonbury Festival on June 28th 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring this broadcast, comments were made alleging that the lead singer of Bob Vylan led antisemitic chants. These allegations are categorically denied by our clients and are entirely untrue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Phoenix Law said Bob Vylan had made statements expressing support for Palestinian self-determination and criticising military actions by the IDF (Israel Defence Forces).<\/p>\n<p>It said the comments did not target Jewish people or express hatred towards any group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe comments made were politically charged but not antisemitic in nature.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Solicitor Darragh Mackin said: \u201cOur clients are no stranger to utilising their freedom of expression to speak out against the genocide in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is however a fundamental distinction between speaking critically about the role of the Israeli state forces, and being antisemitic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe former is speech within the confines of political expression, whereas the latter is a form of hatred directed towards Jewish people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>RT\u00c9 said it does not comment on legal proceedings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Members of British punk-rap duo Bob Vylan have filed defamation proceedings against national broadcaster RT\u00c9.
