Failing to disclose particular mental health conditions could result in a hefty punishment.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/health-conditions-and-driving\/find-condition-a-to-z\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Government website<\/a>, you must notify the DVLA about some medical conditions that can affect your driving. These include a whole host of physical health issues, including some that are fairly common such as diabetes, arthritis and high blood pressure. It also includes <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/life-style\/health\/2143212\/gps-under-pressure-overdiagnose-mental\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">mental health conditions and illnesses such as anxiety and depression<\/a>. However, this is only the case if they would affect your ability to drive.<\/p>\n<p>If your driving is not affected by your mental health condition, you do not need to tell DVLA.\u00a0<a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/health-conditions-and-driving\/find-condition-a-to-z\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">GOV.UK<\/a> says: \u201cAsk your doctor if you\u2019re unsure.\u201d DVLA rules clearly state that road users must report any medical conditions that affect their driving to officials as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>It warns: &#8220;You can be fined up to \u00a31,000 if you do not tell DVLA about a medical condition that affects your driving.&#8221; Once drivers have declared a condition, experts will analyse the evidence and decide a course of action.<\/p>\n<p>The Government website explains: \u201cYour application may take longer than usual if it needs to be referred to a doctor (unless you\u2019re applying for a bus or lorry licence). You can usually keep driving while DVLA are considering your application.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Notifiable conditions are classed as anything that could affect your ability to drive safely. Mental health conditions that are listed by the DVLA as potential notifiable conditions include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Anorexia nervosa<\/li>\n<li>Anxiety<\/li>\n<li>Bipolar disorder<\/li>\n<li>Depression<\/li>\n<li>Eating disorders<\/li>\n<li>Manic depressive psychosis (severe episodes in bipolar disorder)<\/li>\n<li>Obsessive compulsive disorder<\/li>\n<li>Paranoia<\/li>\n<li>Paranoid schizophrenia<\/li>\n<li>Personality disorder<\/li>\n<li>Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)<\/li>\n<li>Psychosis<\/li>\n<li>Psychotic depression<\/li>\n<li>Schizo-affective disorder<\/li>\n<li>Schizophrenia<\/li>\n<li>Severe depression<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Some physical medical conditions included in the list are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Diabetes or taking insulin<\/li>\n<li>Syncope (fainting)<\/li>\n<li>Heart conditions (including atrial fibrillation and pacemakers)<\/li>\n<li>Sleep apnoea<\/li>\n<li>Epilepsy<\/li>\n<li>Strokes<\/li>\n<li>Glaucoma<\/li>\n<li>Blood pressure issues<\/li>\n<li>Blood clots<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can choose to voluntarily give up your licence.
