{"id":226993,"date":"2025-12-11T07:34:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-11T07:34:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/226993\/"},"modified":"2025-12-11T07:34:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-11T07:34:09","slug":"eu-regulators-raid-temus-dublin-facility-over-concerns-of-chinese-state-subsidies-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/226993\/","title":{"rendered":"EU regulators raid Temu\u2019s Dublin facility over concerns of Chinese state subsidies \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Temu\u2019s European headquarters in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\/\">Dublin<\/a> were raided by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/european-union\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/european-union\/\">EU<\/a> regulators last \u200dweek on concerns about potential Chinese state subsidies granted to the online retailer, a subsidiary of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/china\/\">China<\/a>\u2019s \u200decommerce giant PDD Holdings, a person familiar with the matter said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/temu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/temu\">Temu<\/a> did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The raid comes as the EU plans \u200cto crack down on low-value ecommerce shipments that have flooded into the bloc thanks to \u2060a customs waiver on parcels worth less than \u20ac150, which European retailers \u200csaid \u200bgave \u200dplatforms like Temu and Shein an unfair advantage. The EU executive plans to scrap that waiver by the end of next year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The European Commission\u2019s Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR) takes aim at \u2060unfair foreign aid for companies with the goal of reining in competition \u2060from non-EU companies subsidised by their governments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A commission spokesperson said: \u201cWe \u2060can confirm that the commission has carried out an unannounced inspection at the premises of a company active \u200din the ecommerce sector in the EU, under the Foreign Subsidies Regulation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The commission did not name the company or say where the raid took place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Temu sells everything from smartphones to duvet covers and leggings at ultra-low prices and has \u201cshop like a billionaire\u201d as its tagline. Since launching in the US in September \u200c2022, it has drawn \u200cin tens of millions of shoppers globally and in the EU, where it has around 116 million average monthly users.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Raids are \u200cusually carried out when EU regulators have evidence of violations, either from whistleblowers or from \u2060their own investigations.
