US stock futures sank on Thursday after Oracle (ORCL<\/a>) earnings revived AI overspending worries, denting the Wall Street rally <\/a>that followed the Federal Reserve\u2019s latest interest-rate cut<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Contracts on the S&P 500 (ES=F<\/a>) and the Nasdaq 100 (NQ=F<\/a>) were down roughly 0.5% and 0.8%, respectively, paring deeper declines from earlier in premarket. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures (YM=F<\/a>), which include fewer tech names, nudged 0.1% lower.<\/p>\n

Oracle’s after-hours earnings<\/a> brought AI spending fears back with a vengeance, killing off the bullish mood that took<\/a> the S&P 500 (^GSPC<\/a>) to the cusp of a new record high. The software giant missed on cloud sales<\/a> and hiked its already aggressive data center spending by $15 billion. Its stock lost more than 10%<\/a> amid fresh concerns about tech valuations, debt burdens, and the risk that hefty AI investments won’t pay off.<\/p>\n

The broader market finished higher Wednesday after a split Fed voted to lower rates for the third time this year<\/a>, taking the federal funds target range to 3.5%\u20133.75%. Policymakers signaled a more gradual path of easing in the months ahead, but Chair Jerome Powell hinted that a rate hike would be off the table<\/a> for January, while broadly talking up the US economy’s strength.<\/p>\n

Powell said the Fed is “well positioned to wait and see” how economic conditions evolve, adding that tariffs imposed under President Trump have contributed to inflation pressures<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The puts the spotlight on a weekly update on jobless claims on Thursday, while delayed readings on wholesale inventories and trade sales could draw more scrutiny than usual.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, earnings reports continue with Broadcom (AVGO<\/a>), Costco (COST<\/a>) and Lululemon (LULU<\/a>) all set to release results.<\/p>\n
