Bournemouth 4-2.

The Reds were rather lucky in their first Premier League game of the season, as, even though for most of the clash they were on the back foot, they still beat Andoni Iraola’s men by two goals.

As mentioned, Ekitike’s performance was impressive, and although others, such as Florian Wirtz, may not have hit the mark on their Premier League debut, there’s still plenty of time for them to gel.

<img decoding="async" width="1024" Premier League match against Bournemouth at Anfield" class="wp-image-258600" />Photo by Liverpool FC/Liverpool FC via Getty Images

However, even though the former Eintracht Frankfurt man made a good name for himself, what he said after the game will likely get fans even more excited.

Hugo Ekitike believes that he can still do better than how he’s played his first two Liverpool games

Alexander Isak has long been linked with an Anfield switch but with the performances that Ekitike has put in so far, it doesn’t really feel like the Reds need the Sweden international at the moment.

Of course, his addition would be more than welcome and would help take Liverpool’s attack to a whole different level but since he’s an out-and-out striker, Arne Slot’s men would likely lose a lot of their creativity.

Ekitike is often seen dropping back from the front three to try and create something from nothing and thanks to this commitment, he even bagged himself an assist before he was taken off the pitch.

And, while speaking to Sky Sports after the game, it feels like things could still be on the way up for the Frenchman at Anfield.

“I have so much things to do better, I think I will get better,” he said.

<img decoding="async" width="1024" height="710" during the Premier League match between Liverpool and Bournemouth at Anfield" class="wp-image-258586" />Photo by Liverpool FC/Liverpool FC via Getty ImagesHugo Ekitike admits he’s changed his playing style for Liverpool

Seeing as though Slot has a very specific way that he wants his team to play, a lot of his first-team squad have had to adapt their playing styles to fit into the Dutchman’s plans.

And others, such as Ryan Gravenberch, have managed to excel with the way Liverpool line-up and have actually found themselves becoming one of the Reds’ most important players.

Ekitike is no different with the striker admitting that he’s already “changed” the way he plays despite only playing two games for the Anfield outfit.

“I changed my way of playing here, it’s different football with more intensity. The defenders are stronger and there are tight spaces here,” he said.

“I had so much more space in Germany. That’s why I try to come, link and go and run behind.

“We have to find the way to succeed with the details. It’s not good anymore. We just have to get better.”

Not only does this show how committed he is to making a career at Liverpool but it also shows how adaptable he can be if push comes to shove.

Of course, we’re only one game into the Premier League season at the moment but if Ekitike believes he can improve the levels that he’s already shown, that £70m+ fee will feel like a bargain.

Hugo Ekitike was once again one of Liverpool’s best players as they managed to beat Bournemouth 4-2.
