Iconic Limerick sign could going to the Big Apple"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aiir-c-news-figure__image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/6915bc2a13289.png\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/>\n                                    Live95 Picture library <\/p>\n<p class=\"aiir-c-news-article__abstract\">\n            The famous pencil could be finding a new home in the USA\n        <\/p>\n<p>A Live 95 video has resulted in a piece of iconic Limerick city retail history potentially finding a new home in New York.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Live 95 revealed that one of the Midwest\u2019s most popular shops, Silkes Arts &amp; Office on Catherine Street, was to close its doors for the last time on Christmas Eve.<\/p>\n<p>The shop has traded in the city centre for more than a quarter of a century, and the closure resulted from owners and managers making the decision to retire.<\/p>\n<p>Silkes was famous for the big pencil above its door, and the shop has been a creative home for artists, schools, and families for over 30 years.<\/p>\n<p>Following a video report from Live 95 News last month, a New York publican with Limerick links saw the news and has now expressed interest in shipping the famous pencil to the USA.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A guy messaged me, he has a bar in the East Village in New York, and he saw the video online&#8221;, Eoin Silke told Live 95 News.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He messaged me saying he wanted to buy the sign, the pencil over the door that says Made in Limerick to put up in his bar in New York&#8221;, Silke added.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past few weeks, Silkes has been running a final retirement sale before it finally closes in two weeks&#8217; time.<\/p>\n<p>The closure was described as &#8220;bittersweet&#8221;, but Eoin Silke says the response to the sale and the news of his retirement has been heartwarming.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Live 95 News, Eoin said he was proud to have served the Limerick community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are proud to have been a part of such great creativity, and to have shared in so many people\u2019s stories&#8221;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And as for the big pencil above the door?
