Customer confidence in the technology giant\u2019s long-term vision has grown, and clients note signs of progress in delivering on new technologies, like the company\u2019s artificial intelligence agent.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Oracle closed its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcaredive.com\/news\/oracle-closes-283b-buy-huge-growth-engine-cerner\/625103\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:more than $28 billion purchase of Cerner;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">more than $28 billion purchase of Cerner<\/a> in 2022, pushing the company deeper into the healthcare sector.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">However, the business has faced some headwinds in recent years. Oracle inherited a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcaredive.com\/news\/va-oracle-ehr-momentum-speed-deployments-doug-collins\/748543\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:beleaguered rollout of the EHR;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">beleaguered rollout of the EHR<\/a> at the Department of Veterans Affairs \u2014 a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcaredive.com\/news\/veterans-affairs-oracle-ehr-rollout-cost-estimate\/740907\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:pricey project;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">pricey project<\/a> plagued with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcaredive.com\/news\/veterans-affairs-oracle-cerner-ehr-house-hearing\/699971\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:errors and technical issues;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">errors and technical issues<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Oracle also acquired a dissatisfied customer base when it purchased Cerner, and the firm hasn\u2019t yet been able to turn it around, Klas said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Clients interviewed in the report said their relationship with the EHR vendor has declined, noting the company lacks clear communication, has insufficient industry knowledge due to layoffs, increased its focus on collections and hasn\u2019t delivered on some promises. Due to low satisfaction, half of customers interviewed said they would not purchase the EHR again in 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Oracle has lost health systems clients like Intermountain Health, UPMC, Henry Ford Health,\u00a0Adventist Health<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>and ChristianaCare from 2022 through 2024, according to Klas\u2019 latest analysis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Meanwhile, the company\u2019s competitor Epic has been gaining EHR market share among hospitals, according to Klas. In 2024, Epic <a href=\"https:\/\/klasresearch.com\/report\/us-acute-care-ehr-market-share-2025-strength-of-partnership-is-key-in-decisions\/3640\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:controlled more than 42% of acute care hospitals;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">controlled more than 42% of acute care hospitals<\/a>, while Oracle held 23%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">More clients don\u2019t see Oracle as a long-term partner, according to Klas. In the second quarter of 2022, 67% of interviewed customers reported they viewed the vendor as a long-term partner, compared with 47%\u00a0during the first quarter this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">However, some clients are excited about Oracle\u2019s vision for the future. Clients reported improved code quality in new releases, and some of Oracle\u2019s new and updated technologies are exciting for customers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Story Continues <\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">For example, early adopters of the company\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcaredive.com\/news\/oracle-generative-ai-clinical-assistant-launch-timeline\/710027\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Clinical AI Agent;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Clinical AI Agent<\/a>, which automatically drafts patient documentation and suggests next steps, are satisfied with the product.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Oracle is embedding AI even more deeply into its new EHR, which it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcaredive.com\/news\/oracle-new-ehr-artificial-intelligence-ai\/757588\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:launched for ambulatory providers earlier this month;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">launched for ambulatory providers earlier this month<\/a>. Some participants in Klas\u2019 survey were excited about the new system, but most said there didn\u2019t have much visibility into the new record.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">More than 70% of respondents said they weren&#8217;t sure whether they\u2019d adopt the AI-backed EHR, while 24% said they expected to go live in the next two to three years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Oracle didn\u2019t respond to a request for comment on the report by press time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\"><b>Recommended Reading <\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"This story was originally published on Healthcare Dive.
