{"id":228593,"date":"2025-12-12T04:09:15","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T04:09:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/228593\/"},"modified":"2025-12-12T04:09:15","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T04:09:15","slug":"trump-enlists-5-allies-to-counter-china-on-rare-earths-and-tech-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/228593\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump enlists 5 allies to counter China on rare earths and tech \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Beijing has wielded its dominance of the sector<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MOFCOM_China\/status\/1910314479323377994\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/newsletters\/national-security-daily\/2025\/06\/11\/trade-deals-cant-stop-chinas-rare-earth-edge-00400475\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">through export restrictions<\/a>\u00a0intended to hit back against the Trump administration\u2019s aggressive tariff policy on Chinese imports.<\/p>\n<p>The declaration also reflects U.S. concern about China\u2019s massive investment in artificial intelligence and quantum computing that could give it a competitive edge in the 21st century economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an industrial policy for an economic security coalition and it\u2019s a game changer because there is no grouping today where we can get together to talk about the AI economy and how we compete with China in AI,\u201d Helberg said. \u201cBy aligning our economic security approaches, we can start to have cohesion to basically block China\u2019s Belt and Road Initiative \u2014 which is really designed to magnify its export-led model \u2014 by denying China the ability to buy ports, major highways, transportation and logistics corridors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Helberg said that the Trump administration aims to expand the coalition from the initial five countries that sign the declaration to include more allies and partners with mineral, technological and manufacturing resources.<\/p>\n<p>The signing of the declaration kicks off the administration\u2019s one-day Pax Silica Summit, which will include officials from the European Union, Canada, the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates.
