{"id":229214,"date":"2025-12-12T12:59:12","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T12:59:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/229214\/"},"modified":"2025-12-12T12:59:12","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T12:59:12","slug":"companies-register-could-drop-directors-home-addresses-amid-safety-concerns-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/229214\/","title":{"rendered":"Companies\u2019 register could drop directors\u2019 home addresses amid safety concerns \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Company directors could have their home addresses dropped from publicly available accounts and other documents to protect their safety following warnings of threats to multinational executives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Risks to personal safety have prompted calls to allow politicians, social media performers and others to obscure details of where they live from the public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/department-of-enterprise-trade-and-employment\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/department-of-enterprise-trade-and-employment\/\">Department of Enterprise<\/a> officials are considering proposals to axe a law requiring company directors and secretaries to include their home addresses on annual accounts and other returns that are publicly available.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The move is partly a response to a warning from solicitors\u2019 body, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/law-society\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/law-society\/\">Law Society of Ireland<\/a>, that tech company and multinational executives have been seriously threatened or had their homes intruded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">If passed, the law would allow directors to use their company\u2019s registered address, or another location within the State, instead of their home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The department is currently taking submissions from the public on the proposal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A Company Law Review Group (CLRG) recommendation that the law change to \u201cpreclude the default public availability\u201d of directors\u2019 usual residential addresses on the Republic\u2019s Register of Companies, sparked the department\u2019s move.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The group took increased public scrutiny of prominent figures into account. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2025\/12\/04\/onlyfans-creators-fear-for-personal-safety-if-named-on-tax-defaulters-list\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">OnlyFans creators earning up to \u20ac200,000 \u2018fear for personal safety\u2019 if named on tax defaulters\u2019 listOpens in new window<\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It also considered a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/european-court-of-justice\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/european-court-of-justice\/\">European Court of Justice<\/a> (ECJ) ruling that bans member states from naming companies\u2019 beneficial owners, that is, individuals who use various legal methods to avoid being named as shareholders on published accounts or returns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Irish law requires that companies name their directors and include their \u201cusual residential address\u201d on their accounts and returns, which are publicly available.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image audio_image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1754647931518-c07d65db-55b5-463e-ae51-976300c5837e.jpeg\"\/>Why are apartments in Ireland so much more expensive to build than houses?<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Directors can get exemptions from this if they face risks to personal safety or security.
