Albishorn<\/a> is a young brand with a rather peculiar concept. Created by Sebastien Chaulmontet, ex-La Joux-Perret<\/a>, in charge of the revival of Arnold & Son<\/a> and Angelus<\/a>, and now serving as the Head of Innovation and Marketing at Sellita Watch Co SA and Manufacture AMT<\/a>, the brand launched with a rather cool idea: imaginary vintage. Watches designed from scratch, vintage watches that never existed but could have been made at the time, and hypothetical models seen as the missing links in the history of watchmaking. Following the Maxigraph<\/a>, the inaugural Type 10 Chronograph<\/a>, the Thundergraph<\/a> and the Marinagraph<\/a>, the brand returns to its pilot chronograph, now equipped with a cream dial. The imaginary ancestor to the Type 20 pilot watches<\/a>, let\u2019s have a look at this new Type 10 Officer.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

First released last year, the Type 10 Chronograph is a rather original take on one of the most emblematic military and pilot watches of all time. With its Type 10 Monopusher Chrono<\/a>, Albishorn imagined what could have been the ancestor of the Type 20<\/a>, the flyback chronograph conceived for several branches of the French army in the early 1950s and manufactured by Breguet<\/a>, Airain<\/a>, Mathey-Tissot<\/a>, Dodane, Auricoste and Vixa (and some of them still producing modern watches inspired by past models). While the first military Type 20 chronographs (not the Type XX, which was the civilian version) were conceived around 1952-53, the Albishorn Type 10 has been imagined as a watch from 1948, knowing that the Type 20 does not have a direct predecessor.<\/p>\n

Following the inaugural editions with a black or green dial<\/a>, the young Swiss brand by Chaulmontet and his partner Fabien Collioud, in charge of design, has now created another, light-dial version that has undeniable charm. Let\u2019s first talk about the basics and what has not changed. The Type 10 Officer, like the two other models, is a chronograph that doesn\u2019t feature the Type 20\u2019s emblematic flyback or \u201cretour en vol\u201d function. What it has, however, are a few unique tricks to give it a unique appeal. Based on the same case architecture as all previous models of the brand, the Type 10 Officer shares the same middle case measuring 39mm in diameter, combining satin-finished surfaces and polished bevels. Total thickness is pleasant at 12mm despite the highly domed sapphire crystal, and the lug-to-lug of 47.7mm remains reasonable. The back is solid steel and screwed, as it should be on a utilitarian watch.<\/p>\n

There are several unique elements to the Type 10 Chronograph, including this cream-toned Officer edition, such as the bronze crown placed at 10:30 and next to it a large, well-integrated rectangular and notched red aluminium monopusher to activate all of the chronograph\u2019s functions (start-stop-reset), which is done by using your thumb and proves very practical. The right side is free of any pusher or crown, adding to the wearing comfort. A distinctive element of the Type 20 is the black DLC-coated bidirectional bezel with a fully graduated 60-minute scale with lacquered numerals and SLN-coated markers. The bezel is concave and larger than the case, at 41.7mm in diameter.<\/p>\n

The dial of the Albishorn Type 10 Officer is all about the new colour, a light, luminous tone of cream that gives a clear vintage touch to the watch. To bring contrast, the embossed Arabic numerals are coated in black Super-LumiNova, all tracks are black, and the hands, filled with beige lume, are also outlined in black. The strongly textured base has also been retained, as well as the unusual position of the sub-counters, recalling a dashboard instrument. Thanks to a clever rotation of the movement, the small seconds and 30-minute counters are placed respectively at 4:30 and 7:30. It\u2019s quite special, but does add to the appeal of the watch.<\/p>\n

Under the hood is a proprietary chronograph movement. This hand-wound chronograph and COSC-certified movement is built on a modified 7750 architecture \u2013 it is basically a reworked, manual, monupusher Sellita SW500 rotating 135 degrees. Besides the original position of the sub-dials, it\u2019s also fairly thin at 5.70mm (vs. 7.00mm for a hand-wound SW500m), thanks to some work done on the plates and the length of the pivots. It boasts a generous 65-hour power reserve. It also comes with a patented feature, a chronograph function indicator that takes the shape of a dot above the logo at 12 o\u2019clock (which is hidden when the lollipop central seconds hand is stationary). It lets you check that the chronograph is functioning correctly.<\/p>\n

Delivered with a black and a beige leather strap, the Albishorn Type 10 Officer will be limited to 99 pieces, produced over a period of three years. It will be available exclusively online at albishorn-watches.ch<\/a> and priced at CHF 3,950<\/strong>, excluding tariffs, taxes and shipping.
