{"id":229929,"date":"2025-12-12T22:37:11","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T22:37:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/229929\/"},"modified":"2025-12-12T22:37:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T22:37:11","slug":"these-states-may-observe-aurora-borealis-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/229929\/","title":{"rendered":"These States May Observe Aurora Borealis Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Topline<\/p>\n<p>Nearly a dozen states across the northern U.S. may have an opportunity to observe the northern lights on Friday, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. <\/p>\n<p>Auroral activity is expected to calm through the weekend. <\/p>\n<p>Getty ImagesKey Facts<\/p>\n<p>NOAA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swpc.noaa.gov\/products\/aurora-viewline-tonight-and-tomorrow-night-experimental\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"color-link\" title=\"https:\/\/www.swpc.noaa.gov\/products\/aurora-viewline-tonight-and-tomorrow-night-experimental\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.swpc.noaa.gov\/products\/aurora-viewline-tonight-and-tomorrow-night-experimental\" aria-label=\"forecast\">forecast<\/a> a Kp index of four on a scale of nine for Friday night, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swpc.noaa.gov\/content\/tips-viewing-aurora\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"color-link\" title=\"https:\/\/www.swpc.noaa.gov\/content\/tips-viewing-aurora\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.swpc.noaa.gov\/content\/tips-viewing-aurora\" aria-label=\"suggesting\">suggesting<\/a> the northern lights will be \u201cbrighter\u201d and more active for those in the right areas. <\/p>\n<p>Less active auroral activity is expected through the weekend, according to NOAA\u2019s three-day <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swpc.noaa.gov\/products\/3-day-forecast\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"color-link\" title=\"https:\/\/www.swpc.noaa.gov\/products\/3-day-forecast\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.swpc.noaa.gov\/products\/3-day-forecast\" aria-label=\"forecast\">forecast<\/a>, with a maximum Kp index of just over three and two forecast for Saturday and Sunday, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Where Will The Northern Lights Be Visible Friday?<\/p>\n<p>Alaska and northern Canada will have the highest chance of seeing aurora borealis, according to NOAA\u2019s view line. A lesser, yet still possible opportunity is expected in parts of Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Maine.
