{"id":23255,"date":"2025-08-26T00:50:07","date_gmt":"2025-08-26T00:50:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/23255\/"},"modified":"2025-08-26T00:50:07","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T00:50:07","slug":"asia-pacific-markets-track-wall-street-declines-as-investors-assess-trump-comments-on-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/23255\/","title":{"rendered":"Asia-Pacific markets track Wall Street declines as investors assess Trump comments on China"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>People<\/p>\n<p>Maydays | Moment | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Asia-Pacific markets mostly fell Tuesday, tracking losses on Wall Street, as investors weighed U.S. President Donald Trump&#8217;s comments on China.<\/p>\n<p>Investors also assessed the meeting between South Korean and U.S. presidents over fleshing out the trade deal framework announced last month that stipulated 15% tariffs on the Asian country&#8217;s exports to the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.KS11\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0Kospi<\/a>\u00a0index fell 0.56%, while the small-cap Kosdaq was up 0.36%.<\/p>\n<p>In Japan, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nikkei 225<\/a>\u00a0as well as the broader Topix index fell 0.54%.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.AXJO\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<\/a>\u00a0benchmark was marginally lower in early trade.<\/p>\n<p>Futures for Hong Kong&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.HSI\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hang Seng index<\/a>\u00a0stood at 25,711, pointing to a weaker open compared with the HSI&#8217;s last close of 25,829.91<\/p>\n<p>China stocks will be in focus, after the mainland&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CSI 300<\/a>\u00a0extended its gains for a fourth straight session, climbing more than 2% on Monday. Overnight, Trump reportedly threatened to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/china\/trump-says-china-has-give-us-magnets-or-face-200-tariff-2025-08-25\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">charge China &#8220;200% tariffs or something&#8221;<\/a> if they did not export rare-earth magnets to the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Shares in the Nasdaq Golden Dragon China Index \u2014 which captures Chinese stocks listed on the U.S. \u2014 ended Monday&#8217;s session higher despite losses in the key benchmarks on Wall Street.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/08\/25\/stock-market-today-live-updates.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. equity futures<\/a> were little changed in early Asia hours, as investors await <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/NVDA\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nvidia<\/a>&#8216;s earnings and reading of the U.S. Federal Reserve&#8217;s preferred inflation gauge.<\/p>\n<p>Overnight stateside, all three key benchmarks fell with the tech-heavy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.NDX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nasdaq<\/a> down 0.22% at 21,449.29.
