href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/vhi\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/vhi\">VHI<\/a>, is to be appointed as the new head of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/hse\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/hse\">HSE<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Ms O\u2019Connor, who previously worked at a senior level in the HSE, will succeed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/bernard-gloster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/bernard-gloster\/\">Bernard Gloster<\/a> who announced earlier this year  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/health\/2025\/05\/13\/hse-chief-executive-tenders-resignation-with-plans-to-step-down-next-march\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/health\/2025\/05\/13\/hse-chief-executive-tenders-resignation-with-plans-to-step-down-next-march\/\">he would be retiring<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">An occupational therapist by profession, Ms O\u2019Connor held a series of senior roles previously in the Irish health service, including HSE chief operations officer and national director for mental health.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In 2018 she held the post of interim chief executive of the HSE for several months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph Covid-19 pandemic and later to the cyberattack on the health service in 2021.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In August 2022 she was appointed as managing director, of VHI health and wellbeing, a subsidiary of the VHI group, and also served as part of the senior leadership team with the State-owned health insurer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Ms O\u2019Connor holds a diploma in occupational therapy from Liverpool University, an MSc in occupational therapy from Trinity College Dublin and an MSc in management practice from University College Cork\/ Irish Management
