Giatti<\/a>, Christian Post Reporter Tuesday, December 16, 2025<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/158039_w_850_439.png\" class=\"type:primaryImage\" alt=\"A screenshot from the May 2026 animated film, \" animal=\"\" farm:=\"\" a=\"\" cautionary=\"\" tail=\"\" from=\"\" angel=\"\" studios.=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"439\"\/>A screenshot from the May 2026 animated film, &#8220;Animal Farm: A Cautionary Tail&#8221; from Angel Studios. | Screenshot\/YouTube\/@Angel<\/p>\n<p>Angel Studios, best known for originally producing and distributing faith-based content like \u201cThe Chosen\u201d and the hit 2023 film \u201cSound of Freedom,\u201d has announced a deal to distribute the animated adaptation of George Orwell\u2019s classic novel, Animal Farm.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Directed by Andy Serkis and featuring an all-star voice cast including Seth Rogen, Woody Harrelson and Kieran Culkin, Angel Studios\u2019 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=g8wLmj9SiKM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Animal Farm<\/a>\u201d will also feature transgender-identified actor Laverne Cox as Snowball, the antagonist to Napoleon, played by Rogen.<\/p>\n<p>The classic novel, first released in 1945, follows a cadre of pigs, horses and other animals who plot to overthrow their human farmers and create a utopian society led by pigs Napoleon and Snowball, a plot which ultimately crumbles under the pigs\u2019 corruption and greed.<\/p>\n<p>Long held as an anti-communist tale, Sarkis\u2019 \u201cAnimal Farm\u201d reimagines Cox\u2019s Snowball as \u201ca sow and rival to Napoleon,\u201d according to Angel Studios.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a project of tremendous heart,\u201d said Brandon Purdie, executive vice president of theatrical and brand development at Angel, in a statement shared with The Christian Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAndy Serkis\u2019 visionary direction, combined with this powerhouse cast, creates a film that feels timely, urgent and deeply human, even though the protagonists might be pigs, donkeys and horses. We\u2019re confident that moviegoers will see not just a story of farm animals, but a mirror held up to our world today,\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Under the studio\u2019s unique \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.angel.com\/guild\/join\/angel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Angel Guild\u201d<\/a> structure, investors can &#8220;vote on pilots, concepts, and feature films&#8221; to decide what projects Angel Studios should produce. With more than 300,000 members, joining the Angel Guild costs $20 a month or $179 a year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The studio\u2019s latest faith-based offering, \u201cDavid,\u201d based on the biblical life of King David, is set to debut in theaters on Dec. 19.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Calling \u201cAnimal Farm\u201d a \u201creminder that democracy, freedom and integrity are fragile, and must be watched over,\u201d Serkis said, \u201cMy hope is that audiences walk away moved, thoughtful and inspired to stand up for the values that matter. I\u2019m honored that Angel and the Angel Guild are willing to bring this film to big screens around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, Cox rose to fame for starring in the series \u201cOrange is the New Black,\u201d earning the actor an Emmy nomination, and he later became the first transgender-identified person to appear on the cover of<a href=\"http:\/\/time.com\/135480\/transgender-tipping-point\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> Time magazine<\/a> for its May 2014 issue.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Serkis, meanwhile, is known for his on-screen work in the \u201cPlanet of the Apes\u201d movie series as well as playing Gollum in 2002\u2019s \u201cThe Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers,\u201d and also directed 2021\u2019s \u201cVenom: Let There Be Carnage\u201d with Tom Hardy.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/andy-serkis-venom-coming-out-let-there-be-carnage-1235020821\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">2021 interview<\/a> with The Hollywood Reporter, Serkis described the \u201cVenom\u201d sequel as an LGBT-identified \u201ccoming out party\u201d for the alien character from the Marvel Universe. He told the outlet a rave scene in the film was, in fact, an \u201c[LGBT] kind of festival, really, I\u2019d call it, and so this is his coming-out party basically. This is Venom\u2019s coming-out party.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The director also claimed Venom and Tom Hardy\u2019s Eddie Brock \u201care in love\u201d and called the same-sex romantic interest the movie\u2019s \u201ccentral love affair.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Angel Studios rose to industry prominence with the success of \u201cThe Chosen,\u201d the crowdfunded series based on the events of the Bible, but series creator Dallas Jenkins <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianpost.com\/news\/the-chosen-cuts-ties-with-angel-studios.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">severed ties<\/a> with the company in May 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnimal Farm\u201d is scheduled to be released in theaters in May 2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"&#8216;The Chosen&#8217; production company touts latest remake of classic Orwell novel By Ian M.
