Avatar: Fire and Ash star Stephen Lang<\/a> has explained Quaritch’s<\/a> unlikely alliance in the upcoming film<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The third installment<\/a> in James Cameron’s fantasy epic<\/a> sees Quaritch team up with the power-hungry Varang (Oona Chaplin<\/a>), leader of the Ash clan, in his tireless hunt for Jake Sully (Sam Worthington<\/a>).<\/p>\n

While it initially seems like a relationship forged on what the other can offer, they seem to develop genuine feelings of respect as their bond becomes deeper.<\/p>\n

“There’s a chemical reaction that occurs between the two of them, a recognition of kindred spirits,” Lang exclusively told Digital Spy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“I don’t think that it’s particularly often that Quaritch just immediately sees someone with whom he has an immediate understanding that they’re not unlike him. It’s part of what accounts for his admiration for Jake in the first place, it seems to me.”<\/p>\n

He added: “More than that, I think that she inhabits a world in which he feels a degree of comfort, which is to say, a world of conflict, kind of the sulfurous atmosphere of the Ash People’s home base camp feels like a warrior zone. That’s a place where Quaritch is very, very comfortable.”<\/p>\n

Varang star Oona Chaplin also opened up on working alongside Lang, hailing the Don’t Breathe star “very thoughtful and very cultured.”<\/p>\n

“He is so quick, he’s a whip,” she said. “He’s very original, very thoughtful, and very cultured.<\/p>\n

“He’s one of the most well-read and well-versed humans that I know, and he’s extremely charming. It was really easy, we got along very well, sparks flew, and I was helpless before him from very early on.”<\/p>\n

The Game of Thrones actor continued: “I love him, I love his family. You know, he reminds me of my mum, which is very unusual, but he really does, I think, in his originality and his tenacity.<\/p>\n

“He was a wonderful acting partner, and I learned a lot from him about how not to play the villain, but play a really good, badass character.”<\/p>\n

Hitting cinema screens three years after The Way of Water<\/a>, Avatar: Fire and Ash rejoins Neytiri (Zoe Salda\u00f1a) and Jake as they grapple with the death of their son Neteyam.<\/p>\n

At the same time, they cross paths with an aggressive Na’vi group, the Mangkwan, also known as the Ash People, and their leader, Varang, who goes to extreme lengths to protect her tribe.<\/p>\n

Avatar: Fire and Ash is released in cinemas on 19 December<\/strong><\/p>\n
