{"id":241088,"date":"2025-12-19T14:12:12","date_gmt":"2025-12-19T14:12:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/241088\/"},"modified":"2025-12-19T14:12:12","modified_gmt":"2025-12-19T14:12:12","slug":"foreign-ship-gets-penalty-for-illegally-using-starlink-within-chinese-waters-report-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/241088\/","title":{"rendered":"Foreign ship gets penalty for illegally using Starlink within Chinese waters, report says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>China has issued a penalty to a foreign vessel for illegally using <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/starlink?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Starlink<\/a> \u2013 SpaceX\u2019s satellite-based internet service \u2013 within Chinese waters in the first case of its kind, according to local media.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The vessel, which was not identified, was found with a \u201cmicro rectangular antenna\u201d installed on its top deck during a routine inspection by maritime law enforcement officers at Ningbo port in Zhejiang province, state-run Ningbo Daily reported on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The Ningbo Maritime Safety Administration said the antenna was \u201csignificantly different from standard maritime safety communication equipment\u201d, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">It was later confirmed to be a \u201clow-Earth orbit [LEO] satellite communication device manufactured by a foreign company\u201d and the vessel was found to have continued using the device to transmit data after entering Chinese territorial waters, the report said.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The brand of the device was not named in the report but it was identifiable in the photos as a Starlink terminal.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Chinese maritime law enforcement officers carry out an inspection.
