{"id":241872,"date":"2025-12-20T00:00:12","date_gmt":"2025-12-20T00:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/241872\/"},"modified":"2025-12-20T00:00:12","modified_gmt":"2025-12-20T00:00:12","slug":"airspace-approved-for-use-by-western-isles-spaceport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/241872\/","title":{"rendered":"Airspace approved for use by Western Isles spaceport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">A permanent airspace has been approved for around the site of a spaceport proposed for the Western Isles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">The permission from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) would allow for launches of small rockets carrying satellites from Spaceport-1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Western Isles local authority &#8211; Comhairle nan Eilean Siar &#8211; has proposed building the facility at Scolpaig in North Uist.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">The CAA said it had approved the airspace with conditions, which would be published later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">In 2023, the Scottish government decided not to call-in the controversial plans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">It had received 244 individual public responses opposing the plans, including a petition with almost 1,000 signatures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">The government&#8217;s decision meant councillors&#8217; earlier approval of the planning application still stood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">The comhairle had hoped the first launches of small satellites might be possible by early 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">The CAA said the airspace design would become effective on 22 January next year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Spaceport-1 is one of a number of sites being developed in Scotland. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Others include SaxaVord Spaceport in Unst, Shetland.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A permanent airspace has been approved for around the site of a spaceport proposed for the Western Isles.&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":241873,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[270],"tags":[18,19,17,133,451],"class_list":{"0":"post-241872","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-space","8":"tag-eire","9":"tag-ie","10":"tag-ireland","11":"tag-science","12":"tag-space"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@ie\/115748957411307438","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/241872","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=241872"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/241872\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/241873"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=241872"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=241872"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=241872"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
