A woman who became involved in a verbal altercation in a Rathdrum pub before assaulting another woman has been fined.<\/p>\n
Michaela Shortall, of Hawthorn Drive, Rathdrum, Co Wicklow, appeared before Bray District Court charged with a Section 3 assault.<\/p>\n
Solicitor for the accused, Brendan Maloney, told the court that the State did not have a medical report and, in the absence of such a report, his client was willing to plead guilty to a Section 2 assault. The State agreed.<\/p>\n
The court heard that Ms Shortall was in a pub in Rathdrum when she became involved in a verbal altercation with another woman. The defendant pulled the injured party by the hair and dargged her to the ground.<\/p>\n
In his evidence, Sergeant Mick Canavan told the court that the victim suffers from a chronic illness and has experienced constant pain to the scalp since the incident.<\/p>\n
Ms Shortall has one previous conviction for a public order offence at Carlow District Court.<\/p>\n
When questioned as to why she committed the assault, the defendant alleged that the injured party had called her brother a \u201cknacker\u201d.<\/p>\n
The incident was described in court by Mr Maloney as \u201cnot his client\u2019s finest moment\u201d.<\/p>\n
In his plea in mitigation, he told the court that Ms Shortall is the mother of three young children and does not earn a significant income.<\/p>\n
Judge \u00c1ine Shannon described the situation as \u201cdisgraceful\u201d before fining Ms Shortall \u20ac600, with six months to pay.<\/p>\n
