{"id":242743,"date":"2025-12-20T12:40:14","date_gmt":"2025-12-20T12:40:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/242743\/"},"modified":"2025-12-20T12:40:14","modified_gmt":"2025-12-20T12:40:14","slug":"drummer-from-the-script-is-landlord-of-mould-ridden-uninhabitable-garden-studio-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/242743\/","title":{"rendered":"Drummer from The Script is landlord of mould-ridden \u2018uninhabitable\u2019 garden studio \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A founding member of the Irish pop-rock band The Script is the landlord of a mould-ridden, unregistered rented studio described by the tenant living there as \u201cuninhabitable\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Glen Power plays drums and co-founded the band with Danny O\u2019Donoghue and the late Mark Sheehan in 2001.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The band have achieved huge commercial success across the world, having sold 12 million albums and four million concert tickets, according to their Spotify page.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Power is the director of a company called Open Bridge Ltd, with his son Luke Power is registered as the secretary. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/housing-planning\/2025\/12\/20\/living-in-a-mould-covered-garden-studio-christmas-is-going-to-be-miserable\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Living in a mould-covered garden studio: \u2018Christmas is going to be miserable\u2019Opens in new window<\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Open Bridge Ltd had tangible assets of more than \u20ac8 million at the end of 2024, the latest financial statement filed for the company shows. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The company is listed as the landlord of a studio apartment in the garden of a three bedroom semidetached house in Tallaght, Dublin 24. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">While the three-bed house is registered with the Residential Tenancies Board, the one-bedroom apartment at the rear is not.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Tenant Oriel Corway is in receipt of the Housing Assistance Payment, a State scheme for people on the social housing list.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">This State-funded payment covers the majority of the rent for the apartment, which is more than \u20ac1,300 a month. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In May 2025 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/housing-planning\/2025\/12\/20\/living-in-a-mould-covered-garden-studio-christmas-is-going-to-be-miserable\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/housing-planning\/2025\/12\/20\/living-in-a-mould-covered-garden-studio-christmas-is-going-to-be-miserable\/\">Corway paid for an engineer\u2019s survey on the property, seen by The Irish Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The report found high levels of dampness and mould growth throughout the inside of the apartment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It also found insufficient ventilation, exposed live wires and poor weather sealing around the doors and windows.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Oriel Corway in the flat in Tallaght, Dublin. Photograph: Bryan O\u2019Brien <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The report recommended engaging a damp-proofing specialist to resolve the issues, the removal and treatment of the mould and the rewiring of the unit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThere is mould everywhere, it\u2019s all over everything and it is probably all over me,\u201d Corway said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Photographs show significant black mould growth on the walls and ceilings, particularly in the bathroom, which she described as \u201ca nightmare\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Oriel&#xA0;Corway: 'There is mould everywhere.' Sometimes I wake up and I\u2019m soaking wet. It\u2019s no way to live,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">She has raised the issue with letting agent Ray Cooke on several occasions, and they have sent in workmen a number of times.
