Irish shoppers are being urged to check their fridges following an urgent recall notice for a widely-sold snack amid health concerns.<\/p>\n
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland ( FSAI<\/a> ) announced on Friday that an urgent recall has been issued for certain batches of The Galway<\/a> Kitchen Classic Houmous as they “may pose a microbiological risk”. The Mediterranean-style dip is a staple addition to cheese boards and is stocked in Tesco<\/a> stores nationwide, retailing at \u20ac1.20.<\/p>\n The FSAI has confirmed that specific batches of the popular product are being withdrawn from sale due to an incorrectly printed use-by date. The impacted Galway Kitchen Classic Houmous, in 200g packs, carries an incorrect use-by date of 19\/01\/2026, reports the Irish Mirror<\/a>.<\/p>\n Consumers who have purchased the affected batch are being warned not to consume it after Christmas<\/a> Eve. An FSAI spokesperson stated: “The above batch of The Galway Kitchen Classic Houmous is being recalled due to an incorrect use-by date.<\/p>\n “If consumed after the 24th of December 2025, this may pose a microbiological risk which may make the batch unsafe to eat. Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale.”<\/p>\n All affected packets have now been withdrawn from sale and recall notices will be visible at point-of-sale. This latest recall follows the recent withdrawal of several batches of Irish quail eggs from shelves after salmonella contamination was discovered.<\/p>\n The FSAI issued a “do not eat” warning for specific batches of Quail.ie Always Fresh 20 Quail Eggs on Thursday. Quail.ie’s website indicates that it provides quail eggs to “shops and butchers in Dublin<\/a>, Cork<\/a>, Limerick<\/a>, Galway and beyond”.<\/p>\n The recall was initiated due to the detection of salmonella, a bacteria that can lead to gastrointestinal illness and potentially severe complications.<\/p>\n The recall is applicable to all best before dates up to and including 10 January 2026.
