Photo: PhoneArena

However, a new report from GalaxyClub suggests otherwise. It claims that not just one, but two cameras on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be upgraded over their counterparts on the Fold 7 – hinting that Samsung has no plans to slow its hardware innovation, especially with Apple expected to launch its first foldable iPhone soon.

First, it’s worth noting that the 200MP main camera introduced with the Fold 7 is almost certainly going to remain unchanged on the Fold 8. That’s not disappointing, as upgrading to a 250MP or 300MP sensor would be more of a fantasy than a feasible leap in practical terms.

Instead, the exciting change lies in the ultra-wide camera, which is reportedly jumping from 12MP to 50MP – a significant upgrade that could dramatically enhance wide-angle shots.

This 50MP sensor appears to be the same one used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra, suggesting Samsung is working to bring its foldables closer in parity with its highest-end flagships.

Interestingly, the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to retain the same 50MP wide sensor, while the standard S26 and S26+ may still be limited to 12MP. This contrast positions the Z Fold 8 closer than ever to Samsung’s top-tier devices.

A quiet but meaningful boost to telephoto capabilities

The telephoto lens is also rumored to receive an upgrade – from 10MP to 12MP – mirroring what’s expected across the Galaxy S26 lineup.

While the Galaxy S26 Ultra will continue to stand apart with a 50MP periscope zoom lens (inherited from the S25 Ultra), the Z Fold 8 is unlikely to feature such hardware due to design limitations.

But for foldable phone users, this trade-off is understandable. Cutting-edge design and futuristic engineering come with certain compromises – particularly when internal space is at a premium.

No major changes to other cameras

Aside from the ultra-wide and telephoto upgrades, the rest of the camera system on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to stay the same. This includes the 10MP selfie camera on the inner display, the 10MP front-facing camera on the outer screen, and the unchanged 200MP main sensor.

Some users might feel slightly let down, especially considering even the standard Galaxy S25 is rumored to have a 12MP selfie shooter. But this could be a deliberate decision by Samsung to keep the price of the Fold 8 below $2,000, a figure already viewed as daunting by many consumers.

A second foldable device also in the works?

GalaxyClub also mentioned an entirely new foldable device, scheduled for release in 2026, codenamed H8 – distinct from the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s Q8 designation.

This mysterious model is said to have a wider form factor, somewhat reminiscent of the iPad Mini. It’s also tipped to share the 50MP ultra-wide sensor with the Z Fold 8, which at first glance sounds like good news.

However, this has led to speculation that it could be a Fan Edition (FE) variant of the Fold 8. The only problem? Using a high-end 50MP sensor doesn’t exactly align with the lower-price philosophy of FE devices.

Should you be excited about the Galaxy Z Fold 8?

The answer is yes – even if camera upgrades alone don’t make your heart race. If this camera leak were to be rated on a hype scale, most experts would give it a 6 or 7 out of 10.

But beyond photography, other recent leaks have been far more exciting: larger battery, faster charging, wider main display, reduced crease visibility, and most notably, the return of the stylus for the Fold 8.

Together, these improvements could reshape the Fold experience across the board.

A leap beyond Fold 7?

It’s worth noting that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 was already praised in many comprehensive reviews, with strong global sales affirming its appeal.

Now imagine a Fold 8 that improves nearly every area – without raising the price. If Samsung pulls this off, the device could easily become a blockbuster in the foldable market.

Hai Phong

[74
128008,18,128011,116967,128007,19,17,20071,82,128010,128009
0":"post-243896","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-technology","8":"tag-camera-upgrades","9":"tag-eire","10":"tag-galaxy-z-fold-7-comparison","11":"tag-galaxy-z-fold-8","12":"tag-galaxy-z-fold-8-tipped-for-major-camera-upgrades-over-predecessor","13":"tag-ie","14":"tag-ireland","15":"tag-samsung-foldable","16":"tag-technology","17":"tag-telephoto-lens","18":"tag-ultra-wide-50mp
["GET
