\n\tAddison Rae<\/a> knows just as well as anyone in the industry that fame is a gun \u2014 especially when it comes to tensions between two well-known artists. And in a new interview with The Los Angeles Times<\/a> published Thursday (Dec. 18), the TikTok star addressed one such rumored rivalry between her friend and collaborator Charli xcx<\/a> and Taylor Swift<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen asked about the supposed beef between the two pop stars \u2014 who once hit the road together on Swift\u2019s Reputation Stadium Tour in 2018 \u2014 and whether she feels like she can avoid being pulled into discourse about \u201cpop-girl rivalries,\u201d Rae began by saying, \u201cI guess we\u2019ll have to see.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBut there\u2019s so much more to all these things,\u201d she continued of whether she feels she \u201chas to take a side\u201d in the drama. \u201cThere are people that do weird things, and I try to avoid those people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tRae has long been friends with Charli, who was an early supporter of the social media phenom\u2019s music career. The pair have collaborated on \u201c2 Die 4\u201d from Rae\u2019s debut EP, AR, and on \u201cVon Dutch\u201d from Charli\u2019s Brat remix album.<\/p>\n

\n\tBut while the British alt-pop pioneer and Swift have never publicly engaged with feud rumors, the speculation has been pretty much ongoing since Charli dropped Brat track \u201cSympathy Is a Knife,\u201d on which she sings about feeling insecure in the presence of another woman in the industry. Some fans have perceived it as a diss track against Swift, whose The Life of a Showgirl song \u201cActually Romantic\u201d has been interpreted as a response. <\/p>\n

\n\tOn the non-music front, some Charli fans have thought that Swift was purposefully trying to block Brat from the top of the charts in 2024 by releasing a limited U.K. version of The Tortured Poets Department. The Eras Tour headliner also used to date Matty Healy, who is in The 1975 with Charli\u2019s husband, George Daniel.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt doesn\u2019t have to be a thing, but I get it \u2014 it\u2019s entertaining,\u201d Rae added to L.A. Times of artist rivalries in general. \u201cHistorically, there\u2019s always been this friendly or maybe unfriendly competition between people. I think it\u2019s a very natural human thing to want to exceed a standard that someone else has laid out. I\u2019m not really interested it for myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFor the record, Charli has previously stuck up for Swift, telling off fans<\/a> who chanted \u201cTaylor Swift is dead\u201d at the Brit\u2019s show in Brazil in June 2024. And in August that year, the 14-time Grammy winner raved in a statement<\/a> to Vulture: \u201cI\u2019ve been blown away by Charli\u2019s melodic sensibilities since I first heard \u2018Stay Away\u2019 in 2011. Her writing is surreal and inventive, always. She just takes a song to places you wouldn\u2019t expect it to go, and she\u2019s been doing it consistently for over a decade.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs for the \u201cweird things\u201d Rae has experienced in her own career by way of social politics, she told the publication, \u201cWell, you know, this can be behind the scenes as well \u2014 producers and drama in writing and ideas and back-end conversations.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOn my record [Addison] with [producers] Luka and Elvira, we had worked with someone \u2014 or tried to include them in something \u2014 and then we didn\u2019t really feel like it was necessary,\u201d she continued. \u201cNo bad blood. Then all of a sudden, this person had gone and worked with someone else, and things were sounding similar. The timeline of it all was very confusing and interesting.\u201d<\/p>\n
