The really good titles take longer to drop off, of course, but they do still steadily decline.

In the case of Gran Turismo 7, the latest entry in Polyphony Digital’s smash hit sim racer series, it’s defying these traditional industry expectations.

Speaking at the Gran Turismo World Series 2025 World Finals in Fukuoka earlier today, series boss Kazunori Yamauchi revealed the game is drawing an incredible two million monthly active users right now – and new players are joining all the time.

He said, as reported by GT Planet:

“Gran Turismo 7 has been released for several years, but still, the active users are currently over 2 million people, and the new users are increasing. The status that Gran Turismo 7 is in now is probably the best of any Gran Turismo titles that we’ve had in the past. We’ve never experienced this phenomenon before, and neither has PlayStation.”

Yamauchi pointed out that, while the game has certainly been discounted over the years, it’s never seen its price significantly plunge. Furthermore, it hasn’t been added to a subscription like PS Plus.

Thus, according to him, the game’s longevity can be attributed to Polyphony Digital’s continued post-release support – a commitment it started with GT Sport during the PS4 generation.

Indeed, to mark 100 million series sales recently, GT 7 just received its Spec 3 update, which includes a ton of new content for free. For those looking for more, there’s also a Power Pack expansion which expands massively on the number of in-game activities you can do.

Gran Turismo has its own community, of course, which means it doesn’t get talked about as much as other tentpole Sony series. But it continues to prove that it’s one of PlayStation best and most important properties.

We’re confident GT 7 will continue to enjoy significant success right through the remainder of the PS5 generation.

[source gtplanet.net]

Related Games

See Also

As the Editor of Push Square, Sammy has over 15 years of experience analysing the world of PlayStation, from PS3 through PS5 and everything in between.
