(WCJB) &#8211; Tree huggers and art aficionados linked together today to unveil a new West African sculpture at the Dreamer\u2019s Garden in Gainesville.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">There was food, live music, and other West African performers and speakers to honor African culture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The artwork is called \u2018Nommo\u2019 \u2014 a wrought iron sculpture by local artist and blacksmith Yaw Owusu Shangofemi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The art was inspired by the Gullah Geechee culture of West Africa.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Nommo are ancestral spirits, revered by the Dogon people of Mali for their life-giving powers, often depicted as amphibious or fish-like creatures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Back in 2024, Shangofemi\u2019s \u201cGate of the muses for Ray Charles\u201d became the garden\u2019s entry gate.
